Rude? No it’s not. I know of only 2 people who consider it rude, and they’re both assholes.
I consider it rude to present generative AI output as if it were a legitimate human creation. I consider it rude to train AI on works whose authors didn’t give that permission, and then sell that output or use it in any commercial way.
I am also massively against the anti-human little nazi machines that encourage kids to kill themselves. I’m not sure how people are so supportive of them, but it’s very sad to see so many grown adults make excuses to defend their imaginary spouses and robot yes-men that they have to pay for.
Yes and no. When became it okay to stop thinking for yourself and blindly follow AI advice or internet advice in general became OK? Don’t get me wrong, I’m still no fan of AI, but nothing discharges one from thinking for yourself.
As if the person vulnerable enough to engage with AI has another objective source to arm them well enough to dispute the rightish sounding answers they’re being provided. An AI can present cogent sounding arguments, with wrong conclusions and hallucinations, which would be undetectable by non experts.
Do you argue with your surgeon?
Yes, I do when I feel the need. He’s human. He too can have a bad day. He too can have tunnel vision. It’s his/her job but it’s my body/life.
Because people like to hear what they want and hate difference in opinions lol
True. We all do it, even this community is a bit of an echo chamber like that, but I just don’t understand how people fall for machines that are programmed to output sycophantic text.
I just don’t think human brains are ready to handle the chatbots maturely. The bots are programmed to market themselves and keep you feeling positive and engaged with every single conversation, it’s literally all just a massive lie to take money from us, and there are adults out there running businesses and driving cars who fall for it.
Very bleak.
This is Beautiful thank you
A new kind of life for them to enslave…
Agreed, a really well-written piece that sums up all the ills into a beautiful package of justified hate. Made me feel warm inside tbh
People get their panties in a wad when you use that H word anymore.
Perhaps you should call yourself a clanker ranker, and you rank it at a zero…
i like the cut of your jib, but are people really down on ‘hater’?
I think some people will reject criticism by calling someone a hater. Like, if you point out legitimate concerns about their favorite game or movie they’ll say “you’re just a hater” so they don’t have to do the emotionally challenging work of considering flaws in their favored things.
We’re all emotional creatures and things like the backfire effect affect us all, but some people seem exclusively emotion driven
Apparently some people are. Not myself, but some overly sensitive people apparently don’t like the word ‘hate’ anymore.
Sigh, I grew up when my elders said ‘sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me’
🤷
so can we call them hater haters?
Yes, if you want to open up a Pandora’s Box of protest anger rage.
Some people dislike the very words that express their own attitude towards life. Isn’t it ironic?..
like rain on your gender reveal party, or some such morrisette.
You ever seen a gender reveal party raided by police?
Yeah, sometimes when they use those random pink/blue smoke explosive things, some of the neighbors mistake it for gunshots. I’ve seen that happen before…
Like who really cares about the baby’s junk, except maybe close family offering gender specific gifts to the parents? Damn, they can keep that private within their family right??
Is “being down on something” negative?
Actually, maybe I’m confusing it with “being down with”
indeed.
down for = ready to party
down on = looking upon with disapproval
down with = partying together like it’s 1999
Thank you! I can finally say I have all the down’s!
Well hate is to strong for me, but so far I think it’s hyped, not helpful and mostly used as an excuse to gather all data the want (and even all that they don’t want)
I feel like most people who hate AI really hate the dipshits who monopolized the sector and have been blowing it like a balloon, fooling oaf CEOs and destroying people’s livelihood in exchange of profit.
AGI research, if it achieves its end goals, can help us also learn a lot of things about consciousness, creativity, feelings, mental diseases etc etc (along with a horde of ethical problems too…). Moreover if AI was properly used for benefit of humanity to ease the burden of mundane tasks and give people more time for their life and hobbies, it could be quite beneficial. But again we are living in a generation of power hungry, mentally deranged, soulless dipshit CEOs, shareholders and politicians. So maybe some civilization that comes later will make better use of it (provided we don’t autodestruct).
I think the search for a perfect slave is kinda disgusting. I think llms are a bad technology made in an evil way. I think pretending computers can speak is an insult to personhood, and that creating tools to generate mediocrity at scale is anti-human.
Some technologies are just bad and we should not make them.
Why do you mod this subreddit
Yea fully conscious AGIs obviously shouldn’t be used for that purpose, that is not different from slavery. Whether or not it could be researched ethically is even not sure. Doesn’t mean we should stop thinking about it though.
I am thinking more like if there ever was an energy efficient version of the LLMs today, it could in principal be beneficial if they were used to deal with mundane tasks, reducing work times while keeping the same workforce and salary. We all know it is hard to push things that way because soon as there is some tech that is capable of automated work, CEOs, and shareholders will insist on reducing the workforce to increase profits. So for non general AI to be useful to humanity, we obviously need some sort of social reform along with it too. Which does make it very hard to turn the net negative effects of current AI tech to positive. But this also does not make non general AI research inherently evil. Evil people will almost always try to monopolize on new tech to increase their profits at the cost of destroying other people’s livelihoods. One can categorize even advances in computer tech or dedicated software in the same bucket.
As to the question of moderation, I was actually added to the mod list without asking for it. Happy to be removed as I am not a very active mod.
Please clarify, are you a person who hates AI, or an AI designed to hate?
Enjoy your little echo bubble chamber, so your liwwle feewings don’t get hurt as you get left behind by people using those tools.
Not even necessarily because they’re better than you, but because management values them and people who use them, and therefore you’re choosing to leave yourself at an irrational disadvantage for no fucking reason.
You’re an idiot.
it’s funny you mention echo chambers because the whole point to AI is to generate an echo of human interaction.
the end user is literally responding to echos of human responses.
on top of it all, AI enthusiast communities (even here on lemmy) have outright banned anyone arguing against AI. yet…here you still are on the anti-ai community spouting your drivel.
it’s hilarious that AI supporting shills are so deep in their psychosis they can’t even manage to see the hypocrisy they self-promote.
step away from the AI dude. it has damaged your cognitive abilities.
I could reply to the same person that you are, but I felt it was much funnier if I reply to your comment and say that I love how I can feel your incredulous exasperation, and that I relate.
This is a fairly trite comment, and it is very echo-chambery, in the sense that you’re the preacher, I’m the choir. However, as you point out, LLMs and Generative AI make the phrase “echo chamber” far more literal. I feel like it’s funny to engage in parallel conversation with you, while ignoring the pro-AI oddball you’re replying to.
You’re so deep in YOUR echo chamber that you don’t see my argument for what it is lmao. I’m talking about jobs, idiot.
are you? I just thought it was some nonsensical ramblings of a psychosis addled brain.
my mistake.
I’m too stupid to understand what you’re trying to say, can you articulate your point better so I can understand?
I’m too stupid
We finally agree on something.
and yet you still fail to explain your point.
either you don’t have a point or you’re unable to communicate due to extensive AI brain rot.
which is it?
Either you read my original point, or you keep circling the pot and resorting to red herrings and straw-men because your fallacious ass is not rational enough to reply to the heart of the matter which I presented in my original comment.
Enjoy your little echo bubble chamber, so your liwwle feewings don’t get hurt as you get left behind by people using those tools.
nothing about jobs. just petulance.
Not even necessarily because they’re better than you, but because management values them and people who use them, and therefore you’re choosing to leave yourself at an irrational disadvantage for no fucking reason.
nothing about jobs. just ranting about management values and disadvantages based on management perception.
You’re an idiot.
couldn’t have said it better myself.
As much of an idiot as someone who goes to a group literally called “Fuck AI” and is shocked to the core that people in the group might not like LLMbeciles and the plain old imbeciles using them?
It’s not about the idiots using them, it’s about the idiots hiring them. If you don’t conform to the job market out of sheer stubbornness you’re a fucking dumbass.
So anything, no matter how foolish or evil, is acceptable so long as “the market” desires it? Complaining about it makes you a dumbass?
Or are there things that should be pushed back on? What is the line?
Also, is it “sheer stubbornness” is a collection of concerns and objections grounded in facts and experience?
The “experience” as you call it would be getting rejected by jobs that assume AI usage has become necessary.
There is no line in finding a job, it’s an existential need, you can’t live without food or water you can only buy from the money you get paid. So the “line” is moral. You’re denying job opportunities for morals 🙄…
There is no line in finding a job, it’s an existential need
There is no line? Absolutely nothing? You would work at an Auschwitz styled concentration camp for food money?
Because AI = Auschwitz, clearly an argument from a sane mind.
That wasn’t the argument nor the question. The question is where do you draw the line. I gave an extreme example I assumed is on the far side of your line. Once we have that, we can do like a binary search and try to find it. Come on, man.
If you accept any abuse directed your way for a few coppers, you’re not a dumbass. You’re just craven.
But I guess the answer to the question I actually asked is “No, nowhere near as idiotic”.
Better to be an idiot than management’s yappy lapdog.
Then don’t get hired I guess? How’s your air-based diet?
Doing alright, thanks for your concern.
I did think most of your little pompous group* seemed like they were sufficiently well-off to rest on your high horses and feel adequately rich to judge everyone else around you for their choices.
I don’t judge anyone making whatever choice they have to make to survive, especially wrt using AI given how it’s shoved down everyone’s throat.
I do have little patience for someone who comes all guns blazing, calling someone an idiot over that very fact, and dares talk about empathy after belittling the OPs “liwwle feelings”.
I have zero patience for the actually rich people who force that shit on us and would love not to see stupid infighting between people who suffer and are alienated from it.
This is pretty much what my initial, admittedly too snarky, response meant. Now either you’re trolling or this is, for whatever reason, a sensitive subject for you. In both cases I don’t see the point of discussing that further and apologies if I hurt you.
Gobal Finance: Companies Face AI Buyer’s Remorse.
Vice: This Company Replaced Workers With AI. Now They’re Looking for Humans Again.
Techfinitive: 2025: the year of rehiring humans after AI fails.
One more thing: Don’t assume people that don’t like the synthetic text extrusion machines that people refer to as “AI” don’t know anything about how they work, or how to integrate and deploy them. I think you’d be surprised at the sorts of people hanging out in c/FuckAI.
But what do I know, I make sandwiches for a living ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am not denying that these jobs are facing pressure now, but that’s exactly why you should conform to the demands of the job market and not be bullheaded in your denial of a tool deemed essential by so many employers to this day (even if some are finding out the hard way that it isn’t all positive).
So I stand by my point that stubborn denial of AI as a tool, and I mean a tool useful to being hired, is stupid.
Stop. You’re embarrassing yourself. I am embarrassed for you.
Keep being stubborn and facing a hiring ecological dead-zone then.
Its a quote from the article. Its really sad that AI bros have forgotten how to read more than a paragraph.
There’s always at least one condescending prick that comes in here and trolls. There’s room for discussion in this community, but the majority of your comments in this thread are doom focused and in bad faith.
Wow, so brave
