Waltz and Wong have been on the chopping block ever since the signal leaks. Laura Loomer in particular has made multiple posts on twitter (and an in person visit to Trump) to campaign to get him fired.
I suspect that Waltz has been deliberately leaking information to what Trump calls “establishment journalists”, to try reign Trump in, and the signal leaks to Goldberg were part of that. So now he’s gone.
