What health care? My “cheap” state health care that goes up 40 dollars every six months? It started at 30 and now I’m paying over 160 a month for it. Stop fucking around and make this single payer already. There are fuckloads of Americans. We can pay it even without the obscenely rich helping.

      What health care?

I came here to say exactly that.

See the thing is Democrats, if you are going to paint yourselves in as the heroes, you actually have to go after the things you say you will; not just campaign on them and then disregard them when things become ‘difficult’.

I guess you’re too young to remember the Obamacare debate. The Dems barely managed to pass a plan inspired by Mitt Romney’s Mass. plan.

It’s hard to do nice things when the GOP is actively trying to destroy the social net.

If a state with a bullet proof democrat super majority can’t fix things like healthcare, wages, housing, etc democrats on the federal level couldn’t do it either. They would find, like California does, a rotating villain to blame for not being able to govern.

I don’t think you’ll find many people that don’t look at our current healthcare system as a wreck. People are paying $150-$300 a month for a coupon that takes 70% off their next hospital bill of $200,000.

A better message would be that Trump is coming for our Democracy.

But this current message lacks any perspective on our current healthcare system.

            Yes. .

It can get a bit murky, based on how people split the age sections. Gen X, for example is frequently split between two age ranges (they’re people between ~45 and 60, and for example the census splits people as 34-65, or others at 55.)

Also keep in mind that boomers tend to lean red where millennials tend to lean blue.

It doesn’t help that boomers are dying off. Cuz you know. that happens.

So, genuinely, why even pay for it?

You’re going to go bankrupt anyway. Might as well save the cash, open a trust and transfer it in there so debt collectors can’t touch it, then file for chapter 7 bankruptcy. Then just don’t pay the absurd bills.

The idea of health insurance is to not go bankrupt if we get sick. A 5 figure bill is not pleasant, but not insurmountable for us.

So if one of us ends up with medical bills for $800k, we’ll spend something like $30k if treatment straddled two years, and our insurance pays the rest (theoretically).

It sucks ass, but health insurance is pretty much useless at general day to day health coverage that costs in the 3-4 figure range. But absolutely essential for the catastrophic life saving coverage that would wipe us out.

Of course, due to in/out coverage bullshit, and insurance companies fighting claims, there’s always the strong possibility we get wiped out anyway. But that’s another discussion.

I’m sorry you’re in that situation, but this is wrong.

He successfully created subsidies that brought Affordable Care Plan enrollment up and brought the number of uninsured Americans down from 14.5% to 11% through the American Rescue Plan Act, which removed a cap on eligibility for subsidies above 400 percent of the poverty level and limited premiums to 8.5% income among other things.

Every action he’s tried to take in the healthcare front has been blocked by others, lawsuits from drug companies, Congress, you name it. States were supposed to take increased funding and expand Medicaid access for people outside the income range for ACA at the same time as the increased subsidies. Many did. Several did not (take a guess which).

He’s certainly a flawed president and I wish Democrats ran someone stronger, but this critique is provably false. He has mentioned it and tried to take actions to improve healthcare access.

Of course he could do more, but saying “no mention” is either willfully ignorant or trollish or angered exaggeration. This is on top of the health care improvements he managed to get into the Inflation Reduction Act and proposed healthcare funding in the budget he released in March (which is again supposed to expand Medicaid and Medicare).

This is the opposite of what i said. I dont make too much to qualify, i dont make enough to qualify.

States were supposed to take increased funding and expand Medicaid access for people outside the income range for ACA at the same time as the increased subsidies.

Im aware. This happened 14 years ago. He campaigned on closing this gap, he has not mentioned it since elected.

And I’m saying you’re wrong and completely ignoring the actions he took to address it. It was mentioned. States were to expand Medicaid in conjunction with his expanding ACA explicitly to handle situations like you brought up.

His proposed budget involves $150 billion earmarked for Medicaid explicitly to expand it to cover people in your situation where the 10 states did not expand coverage as they were supposed to after his American Rescue Plan Act in 2021 and Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. This was not 14 years ago. That was 3 and 2 respectively. And the budget is being debated currently.

He’s mentioned it. He’s been trying to tackle it.

“Expansion of Medicaid was a key aspect of the ACA when it was signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010”

He would have to be quite a fool to make the same mistake again of leaving it up to the states to expand Medicaid

OK, the only US candidate to mention Universal Healthcare for all Americans was Marianne Williamson. The rest do not give a shit about the massive healthcare dumpster fire.

Being reported for “misinformation” but that’s because of the short term memory problem most people have.

The year was 1984 and then Senator Biden worked with Republicans in the Senate to cut COLA for both Medicare and Social Security.

      https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/remarks/grassley-president-biden-should-remember-his-words-39-years-ago-do-something-about-national-debt

It passed the Senate by a single vote. You could argue that vote was Biden’s.

It then promptly died in Tip O’Neill’s House.

Without that additional context, it is disinformation which is clearly intended to affect views of Biden’s current policies.

My brother in Christ, Joe Biden was and still is a tradition Republican who calls himself a Democrat. He is saying what ever needs to get votes. He has shown multiple times that he has no intention of going through with it.

Bruh, its not ‘short term memory’ issues when you’re talking about shit from 40 years ago. That’s generations of time. Spoken word oral tradition shit.

Bring up shit that’s happened this century, not shit that happened before the internet was more than just ARPANET or wearing onions on your belt wasn’t the hip new thing.
