I literally don’t know if we can reintegrate breadtubers into a just society. They’re all soft-zionists and Removed-ists. And even if we execute our justice program, most of you lot will fall for their 3 hour speeches from their jail cells about why them being forcefully rehabilitated is “Foucaultian pan-sexual-opticon left-fascism” or some shit.
I can’t believe people here still talk about Breadtube when it’s been 5 years since any of them were relevant and all of them combined post an average 1 video a year
Literally most of them have moved on to other stuff, while riding the parasocial patreon wave for as long as it goes.
We should do the same.
Genuinely I feel a little conspiratorial about the fact that so much of “breadtube” did things about how bad parasociality (i.e. analysing their actions in any way) and entitlement (expecting stuff for your money) was bad and then dipped the fuck out with a patreon retirement plan.
Like i don’t actually believe that. It’s just that breadtube was only ever a couple of libs in group chats with each other. But sometimes. Either way, they don’t wanna make videos, they don’t want this to matter, and it never should’ve anyway.
I had a similar thought train the other day when I realized both the Chapos and Obama came to the conclusion that they shouldn’t do politics but start movie production companies with their wealth
they don’t want this to matter, and it never should’ve anyway.
I don’t think it ever did, and everyone on the production side of things quickly realized that the best they could hope for was making educational content, and many just realized it was nothing but entertainment and artistic expression. Propaganda is worthless in a vacuum. Posting isn’t praxis. Even if it’s 4 hour videos
parasociality (i.e. analysing their actions in any way)
Did they call that parasociality? I thought it was more like “omg videomaker is my friend because they share stuff about their life in their content with me”.
I have very little sympathy for people who choose to give a relatively small amount of money to an artist on a periodical basis for nothing other than slight perks, and then complain when the art making machine doesn’t run at a constant rate. If you want a video essay on the Dao of Space Jam so bad, foot the whole cost and commission it so the artist has to make it by a certain deadline. Sure, communities have been misled and have the right to feel they have been scammed, but when the community itself fails to enforce their preference, they only have themselves to blame if they’re still paying 5 bucks a month, no matter how much they grumble about it.

I’ve been shitposting here/CTH long enough that I enjoy getting to see the corrective whiplash in action. I also enjoy commenting on that fact.
This place has had its infatuations w things like Zizek, Contrapoints, Breadtube and others I can’t recall b/c I’m half asleep.
Bread was never meant to be put in a tube.
Sorry France.
New England steamed brown bread catching strays. Or maybe well aimed shots, it does sound like you said that with intention.
How dare you slander trdelnik like that.
What about cheese?
Turkish fresh cheese from a really tall can is p good, and the closest substitute I can find in Europe for specific kinds of cheese from my country I need to cook my food.
They’re going to deboonk their way out of every jury trial we put them in. They’re going to invent the trial-filibuster where they present a 47 hour opening argument followed by increasingly longer presentations about queering Ace Combat.
And it will work.
queering Ace Combat.
I think this is the premise of the short story that due to absurd backlash was renamed “Attack Helicopter”.
Okay sure but they’ll die in jail of old age preparing the presentation.
jury trial?

I’ve watched breadtube but still am unsure what makes someone a breadtubist. I mean is it:
- clowning on reactionaries
- making video essays for a left of center audience uncomfortable with the USSRs image
- appearing in the videos of other breadtubers
- a trend on YouTube that ballooned into a wannabe genre or scene
- it’s only breadtube if it was made during the breadtube period otherwise it’s just sparkling influencer
- appearing on a playlist called breadtube
Breadtube was a cultural moment where a bunch of center left video essayists showed up on youtube (previously not really known for video essays, more known for being kind of a cesspool) at about the same time, which matched with the political moment (people sick of the always failing Democrats and getting into Kropotkin) so suddenly having a bunch at once felt like some sort of political shift. But it later turned out that they all showed up at once because they were just the friends/classmates/whatevers of Lindsay Ellis or hbomberguy.
It lasted like two years before the people involved went to other things, and people convinced that “bunch of vaguely left video essayists on youtube” is a political movement kept grasping at straws to keep it going.
They are a breadtuber if they;
- have facial hair/hairstyle i don’t like
- make videos that are too long
- are annoying
- change outfits or too many interstitials
- have politics predominantly about pop culture and touch being expressly political
- are annoying as fuck (slightly different kind of annoying)
- have a patreon and release 1 video every 6+ months
- mispronounce complicated words seemingly intentionally to boost comments
- have said “i raised money for a charity” when it’s not their money donated
- are not expressly marxist-leninist or at least not from an imperial core country
- talk into the camera, as if the camera is a person in the room
- talk vaguely about “queering” stuff
- are on Nebula
make videos that are too long
I remember this exact exchange happening on r/CTH like 100 times
“Their videos are too long”
“Okay don’t watch them”
“But it’s on a subject matter I’m interest in”
“Maybe there’s some other creators making content in this subject that more short form?”
“Yes but I’d have to look for it, I’d rather just yell at someone I’m already following to make videos shorter”
Honestly it’s a weird phenomenon I’ve encountered where people online seem to think they’re OBLIGATED to consume anything that’s posted in their feed and get pissed off when they don’t like it. Mother fucker turn off your computer, close your eyes
It’s not weird to critique people whose shit sucks and sucks too long.
I mean you can critique all you want but idk why people got so pissy about it. Sometimes I like popping a gummy and watching some deep drive vid about something I’m into, nobody is MAKING you watch this shit if you don’t like it.
All video essays exist without my consent. Their freedom to post them insults me and I’d have them all in zoos.
have said “i raised money for a charity” when it’s not their money donated
well yeah necromancers don’t pretend like they birthed their thralls
are annoying as fuck (slightly different kind of annoying)
this is the key ingredient
Im half way there already! Early Patreon pension here I come. I’ll mispronounce the hell out of interstitial
i recall he alt-right pipeline video guy (innuendo studios) secured the patreon bag, then slowly stopped producing content. effectively went on hiatus for a year only to pop up with a ‘woe is me, my debts’ 100k fundraiser to pay off his debts and back taxes, then went on sabbatical to japan after
Also waited until just after the democrats lost their election to talk about the Palestinian genocide.
Requiring reoccurring transactions to have a positive affirmation every now and then would destroy this
Is that shit still relevant?
Text form is superior anyway (but unfortunately Substack is full of neolibs and fascists).
But how am I supposed to do 5 costume changes and visual gags on a blogpost?
(ngl I kinda like when video essays do that, and I don’t get the same thrill from written form)
