Anyway, good quality non-Brtsh[1] fair trade looseleaf is expensive up front but I’ve had this bag for a long time and am still not through with it because it’s so strong I don’t have to use much and if I don’t oversteep it it holds up well for a 2nd steep. It’s probably still more expensive than bagged assam per cup, but it’s also some of the tastiest tea I’ve ever had so I’m fine paying more cents per cup.

I really like persian tea brewed strong as fuck when watered down to taste with some dates in a fancy glass.
Oh that looks so pretty! Dates sound like a good pairing for strong tea as well.
Preach. Tea and Coffee are some of the only hyper-colonial goods on which I spend as much money as I can reasonably afford. I love a good, malty, tannic and almost sweet assam — especially in the summer when brewed cold.
Coffee, it seems, will not fare as well as tea in the impending climate apocalypse, so I’m really treasuring the good stuff now. Pro-tip: vacuum seal some of the good shit in whole-bean single-servings and stash it in your freezer. Shit will stay fresh for years that way. Don’t know if it works the same for tea, though :(
I love a Malaysian-Indian style pulled tea, and it doesn’t taste right without the malty flavour of Assam tea.

Unironically true with high quality loose leaf tea. Outside of some niches (like gyokuro) I brew everything at boiling and without any particular care as to the length of the brew. Cooler temperatures and shorter brews are good for selectively extracting good tasting compounds in leaf that has good and bad tasting compounds, but the highest quality stuff is just good all the way through. So more temperature and longer brews just means more good in the cup.
And to be clear this is a tea snob perspective, I’m just an even bigger snob than most snobs. I look down on the snobs and their pathetic fragile low quality leaves.

Assam tea is way too fancy for me. I just get the cheapest Turkish brand, dip the teabag for less than 10 seconds, add more sugar than water, and drink it from a glass with a handle, never from a ceramic cup. Just like my father used to.
