AI pattern matching to be used for searching is a thing that existed before the current LLM and image generation shitfest that we complain about using ‘AI’ since that is the common shorthand used by media and shills.

A search that returns unaltered search results is very different from an ‘AI summary’ that is full of errors.

        Um…

The Redditor, nicko170, said they had a large language model transcribe, collate, and summarize the documents and built the database to make the files more easily searchable.

I think there is some nuance that you are missing.

This is still part of a search process that makes the files more easily searchable. The end result is still searching the documents to find where in the documents something is. The summary in that case is to help confirm what you are looking for is in those results. The summary is not the end result.

That is very different than presenting the summary as the end result, which is the LLM AI hype train from OpenAI and similar companies.

The same tools can be used in multiple ways, some are positive and some are not. Like how an axe can be used to chop down a tree or murder someone.

When somebody uses AI in a way you don’t like

            That’s AI slop!
