For the first time in nearly 20 years, the U.S. has experienced an alarming uptick in infant mortality rates, according to the CDC.

Failed pregnancies that would have been aborted are now counted as infant mortality?

Also, healthy pregnancies being denied proper care as obgyn’s flee restrictive states?

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/aug/22/abortion-idaho-women-rights-healthcare

Infant mortality goes up. Gee, ya think?

Women’s deaths were already going up BEFORE Roe was revoked (2022). Keep these numbers in mind going forward:

    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hestat/maternal-mortality/2021/maternal-mortality-rates-2021.htm

“In 2021, 1,205 women died of maternal causes in the United States compared with 861 in 2020 and 754 in 2019 (2). The maternal mortality rate for 2021 was 32.9 deaths per 100,000 live births, compared with a rate of 23.8 in 2020 and 20.1 in 2019 (Table).”

COVID was a huge factor in the 2021 increase, though. That doesn’t mean that you aren’t right, it’s just that I wouldn’t expect any numbers exceeding that spike anytime soon, even after that awful decision.

That said, US maternal mortality rates are shameful and far exceed any comparably wealthy country and they have been long going in the wrong direction even before COVID.

Hey guys, I got a great idea to address this number.

If an infant dies due to complications we know about before its born, we just don’t count it.

If they manage to survive great, but really, they were DOA anyway, so why should we be counting them.

That should help bring the numbers back down!

Or do the covid thing and just stop counting and reporting data altogether. Problem solved bigly!
