China is cracking down on young women who write gay erotica

At least 30 writers have been arrested across the country since February, a lawyer tells the BBC.

I had no idea that there was a fujoshi in the BBC cast of “journalists”, and I have trouble believing that the arrestees would be forced to strip nude. Does anybody have more information on what is going on?

    The law targets “explicit descriptions of gay sex or other sexual perversions”. Heterosexual depictions often have more leeway - works by acclaimed Chinese authors, including Nobel Laureate Mo Yan, have graphic sexual scenes, but are widely available.

    Presuming this is accurate, the state of Chinese obscenity laws just fucking sucks ass (which I assume is also illegal). It’s the 10 year jail sentences that are the single most awful thing about all of this though. Taking away their earnings or nuking the offending content from the internet is one thing, but imagine putting some 20-year-old in prison until they’re 30 because of some mpreg fanfic they sold as a side hustle

    That’s fucked up, assuming the news is accurate. I know the original source includes some nerds at Radio Free Asia, so I have doubts, but this sounds like it’s got a kernel of truth to it.

    I’d love to hear some non-western reporting on this one. Some BBC dork in Hong Kong doesn’t count.

    Yes, them being arrested is true. I can’t see why they need to be striped naked tho doesn’t make sense, any translation error? Important bit piece is all form of form of sexual content is illegal in China, even heterosexual ones, but i can see how this can be weaponized against queer sexual content only. Still, quite absurd and harsh law for writing some words and should be changed, nobody is being exploited in written erotica.
