    On iOS you can select the text in the meme itself and get a translation in seconds. Not sure about android cause I just don’t use it, don’t hate me.

      Besides character recognition in images, most people are also able to type.

          As long as the language of the respective post shares the same or a similar alphabet as those you know, that’s not very difficult to do. Especially German-English isn’t hard to type. The worst thing might be Umlaute (ä, ö, ü) or the “sharp s” (ß). But that’s about the all of the difficulty there is.

          Less convenient, sure. But not very much more effort either.

            It still requires some effort. If I was in the mood to invest effort into something I wouldn’t be doom scrolling on Lemmy.
