    I think the arguments they’ve been cooking up are trying to use the non-consecutive terms as a loophole. That simultaneously enables a third Trump term while not allowing a third Obama term.

    Basically
    If you’ve served two terms in a row: you can never be president again.
    If you’ve only served non-consecutive terms: you can be president again.

    The 22nd amendment’s language pretty clearly doesn’t actually allow that, but that’s what they seem to be going for and the Supreme Court can pretty much interpret the Constitution however they want.

    But pretty much that exact kind of thing has been used by the US as an excuse to coup Latin American leaders, including Evo Morales in 2019. Although Evo had a stronger constitutional argument iirc.
