he won last time because they made voting laws easier to improve voter turnout and he pulled in 3rd party voters using campaign promises that the didn’t deliver on; i wonder if he’ll be able to win again now that those laws have been replaced with voter suppression and 3rd party voters know that he’s full of shit.
Also, don’t forget that the Dems spent the entire election cycle alienating as much of the progressive half of their base and/or the people who vote Dem strategically because they were lesser evil believers (eg trans people who were at least not ACTIVELY targeted by Dem politicians). Biden running a 2nd time instead of running a primary then replacing him with the least popular candidate from the previous round without any input from the constituency. THEN completely ignored their base asking them to even acknowledge the Palestinian genocide, let alone commit to putting any sort of restrictions on it. Pretty much ruined any credibility they had left with anyone marginally left of center. They’re now continuing to try to beat the Republicans by running hard right. I really hate this political system.
they’ve ruined their credibility before each time they turned their collective backs towards vulnerable minority for the “greater good” (like they did again when biden signed the anti-trans bill just before his departure).
however, this election has taught me that credibility doesn’t matter. democrat voters openly demonstrated that they dgaf about a genocide enabled by their people, so long as they get what they wanted, just like any maga republican; that means that only vibes matter and credibility was only a pretense.
Yeah, but if you look at turnout, Trump won 2024 with less votes than Biden had in 2020. The cracks are starting to appear. Dems have definitely been riding the coat tails of vibes based candidates since the 90s and those chickens are finally coming home to roost. Unfortunately, they continue to learn the wrong lesson (though, thats because their real constituency is the oligarchs and labor aristocracy, not everyday workers).
the turnout was caused by the genocide and i think that they’ll take the wrong lesson again in the next election since even the vulnerable minorities voted for them again every-single-time immediately after the democrats dropped their asses to curb for that “greater good”
Yes, I agree with you on that. The Democrats have been the vibes party for so long and their base are starting to question if the vibe feels off now. I honestly think their inability to properly address the genocide has essentially nuked any last chance of winning an election, assuming we end up having elections again at this rate, ever again.
Additionally, to add to the genocide issue, they didn’t have good messaging regarding inflation. They talked about how inflation was down as if most of us weren’t still struggling with the prices clearly being higher, regardless of how much lower the RATE of inflation had fallen. Inflation rate means fuck all when your pay isn’t keeping up with the inflation you’re already dealing with.
Unfortunately, the average American is so alienated from both their own labor and each other that I worry that instead of organizing, we’ll just see even lower voter turnout and more hyperfascist candidates winning more seats. (I say this knowing damn well I’m so exhausted from trying to keep from becoming homeless myself that I haven’t been doing any organizing like I should be outside of sending radical theory bits to my friends to try and radicalize them, too)
i think we all are and elections will continue, just slightly more tipped in favor of republicans through more enhanced voter suppression and manufactured consent than they already are today and with continued democrat complicity.
the only thing that can enable a democratic win is a lack of another genocide; another pandemic; or a large enough economic collapse. however, even if they do, they will continue trump’s policies as they’re already done in a number of arenas; particularly when it comes to international policy and immigration, like we’re seeing in the news today.
Honestly not sure a Dem win would be worth anything. They’ve always blocked meaningful movement towards the left and even when they did something right it was because there was mass support or it was a good wedge issue for fundraising, never because it was the actually moral thing to do. Now, they’re all in on beating the Republicans by (checks notes) being Republicans.
I’m just so tired of this system, it’s killing the planet, it’s killing the black, brown, and every other color of people you can thing of, it’s just straight up cruel and inhumane, all so a few rich c**ts can have another megayacht with a helipad and a matching mini support yacht.
I’m going to stop my rant here, I think we’re both preaching to the choir (not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just tend to ramble of I don’t cut myself off) and I’m just really mentally exhausted thinking about how insanely cruel the western hegemonic system is. Thanks for the chat, have a great day.
