I live in an old house with a similar setup. I marvel at how the homeowner really thought of where she needed things to be located, how each addition to the house was clearly for the homeowner’s use and ease. The built in cabinets, the cupboard specifically for baking sheets and cutting boards, the ironing board neatly tucked away in it’s own hidey spot. It’s lovely.

I might be biased because nail painting is a long-held hobby of mine so the topic is particularly interesting when I find people outside of the hobby talking about it. Oftentimes, the media wants to treat women as a monolith - a group of consumers that are ready to be sold the “next big thing” when it comes to fashion trends and be manipulated through advertising and social pressure to conform or be seen as more serious. It’s been used both as a way to boost sales and as a way to cast types of women as undesirable. It’s hard to pinpoint why there’s a natural push for clean girl aesthetic or maybe the clean girl aesthetic is being pushed for a reason from outside forces.

Beauty trends during recessions are often highlighted as proof of ways society at large changes under economic hardship and how we expect women to look and act during such times.

My own feelings on the entire matter is that I’m staunchly opposed to women being told what to or not to wear. Clean and/or bare nails aren’t any more or less professional than nail colors and the framing of it that way is odd to me. Makes me think it’s way more about pushing women to act a certain way to be seen positively by society and ew I always hate that haha.

The article glosses over the DIY nail painting communities a lot as well. There’s a large amount of options between going to the salon and having bare nails.

I get the most use out of a cheap beard trimmer tbh. I don’t shave at all anymore and use the beard trimmer on spots where the hair gets long enough to be annoying. It’s quick, doesn’t pull the hair, and has lasted years now. Worth the $25-30 I dropped on it and would replace it with the same once it dies.

I love both tbh. Most days I view cooking as my hobby and I’m excited to whip up a good meal for everyone to enjoy together. Every once in a while, I adore getting take out from my favorite local spots and reveling in having someone else cook for me.

My mom used to do what she called “Grandma Jones’ Days” and we would stay in our comfy house clothes and do crafts and watch soaps and eat the yummiest foods all day. I love leaning into grandma hobbies!

Me too, the men I have in my life are great and we have close bonds. They also do the work to be good, healthy friends that share a lot of respect and love.

I don’t know anyone who is gloating about these unemployment numbers. It’s clearly a crisis for young men in the workforce and it’s a bad indication for everyone. There’s no positives there for anyone.
