my tech department recently unionized, its great
one of the best things about it is enforcing the “other duties as required” and setting a hard limit on what that means, management has to accept it and they hate that shit

:(
I had coworkers that died… working at a hospital during that time was a nightmare
until 1 million what?
I got my mother in law on Mint linux a couple years ago, it never gives her any problems. It is the way to go with the seniors
I am a system admin and have to run a ton of Windows servers, I feel it. If you don’t keep up on the patch notes shit can get bad without even realizing it. I hate Windows for all the crap that is layered on it but it wouldn’t be so bad if Microsoft didn’t change shit just to change it and move stuff around without a good reason. The forcing of things is what really makes me upset. IDK about your AI shit Microsoft! ITS NOT HELPING
i installed arch on my laptop almost 10 years ago
I have to fix something maybe once a year and I only update once a week, if i remember
reboot maybe one time in a month
the myth that you need to fix Linux constantly needs to die
the universe in a bud
yeah stupid 12 year old me who figures out how to turn baseball cards into gas and food for my mentally broken mother and my sister and brother
I mean we might have found a spot for the camping stove but ok sure cooking at parks and camp fire works. but being homeless and a child presented obstacles and discount donuts were the special spot for my dollar when a dollar meant the most to me
you need to hit the bong, dude
my family would wait until the donuts would go on discount in the evening
sometimes it was the only calories that would get us through the next day
so donuts and dollars has always had a heavy weight to it
you thank your car?
whatever floats your boat but I think we both know you are just being contrarian now
why are you arguing that at me? I just argued that its not a human, AI is a tool and should be treated as such. If my tool sucks, I will tell it so and quit using it. If my tool is great, I will use it to the best of my ability and respect its functionality.
everyone else here is making scarecrow arguments because I just don’t think it needs to be anthropomorphized. The link speaks about “tens of millions of dollars” wasted on computing please and thank you
that is fucking stupid behavior
but dont anthropomorphize your tools. And it’s odd when someone does.
I see people beat up their things all the time without getting upset
I don’t really care when someone smashes the door closed of their car
or smashes their keyboard in frustration or tosses a pen that doesn’t work right
Maybe you should learn about where electricity comes from, when the demand is too much for the standard power grid to fulfill?

its a hammer, do you teach the kids to thank their tools?
I understand teaching the children respect and how to behave, but AI and Siri/Alexa are just tools. They don’t need to be anthropomorphizing ai, IMO that is dangerous on a humanity level scale.
Lucifer in Sandman is in hell but that’s because that’s his realm and it’s what you expect but he’s a charming and likable guy who’s just doing what he’s able to do. God ignores him and that’s his ultimate pain
I hate that I recognize the software behind the screenshot of his termination ticket.
Its situations like this, that make me happy to have made the choice to exit the private sector and deal with the bureaucracy and almost equally maddening public sector issues. But at least the public sector is dealing with people and not blind policy making workflows that are impossible to interrupt.
People can be frustrating but at least you can get something done with people.
