One of ever so many indications that idiots had money in earlier eras.

81·2 days agoI wouldn’t say the Quest is cheaper, you just pay a recurring non-cash cost. It’s a price I’m not willing to pay. I’m also not able to pay the expected cost for the Frame right away, but I hope there are enough early adopters to keep the manufacturing line going long enough for me to be able to afford one.
What does it say about your neighborhood when the drug dealers are the most classy people there?
Oh, is that not what you meant?
Open source, and no ambiguous options grandfathered in.

1·3 days agoEveryone above this comment was expressing frustration with using MS products. This doesn’t go away with a VM and personal privacy has no bearing. I have a job that is computer-adjacent, and still use MS products enough to swear at them every day I work. As a former programmer, im not sure I’d want to get back to doing that full-time if I had to use other MS products more. I hear the coding stack is still exceptional.

3·3 days agoI’m pretty sure Office 97 was the last version to not use ribbons or have auto-arranging menus. As a support worker, nothing was worse than those two items. Having to walk someone through clicking a series of static menus was so much easier, could even be done in a doc with optional graphics, and the user might learn something in the process. After those things, there was no standard, anything could be anywhere, and there was no guarantee you or the user would know where to find the thing you were looking for. And they called it progress.

9·6 days agoMy bad! I simply couldn’t tell in the thumbnail, but you easily can in the full-sized picture. That’s a little more honest, at least. But you can bet that tractor only goes on that lawn for photo shoots.

332·6 days agoNot bothering to read this, but that picture in the thumbnail really encapsulates the performative nature of politics. Giant porch, elstylish furniture, huge expanse of well-manicured lawn backed by a hedge…and a John Deere tractor parked on that lawn. Just regular people!
It sounds like the hiker was reasonably qualified, and had a device to contact emergency services if things changed (assuming he was still able to use them). Certainly not the choice I’d make, but my qualifications are much different.
Because normally dogs shouldn’t be in restaurants.

Bullets cost money, so bullets are just a way of projecting speech. Finally, a way for the average person to “talk” to a politician where they’ll actually listen.
Does this qualify me to be a Supreme Court judge?
