For anyone seeing this not from BC, it probably bears being aware that the “in nearly a century” line could do with some context, because it’s not true that it’s the first small-c conservative government in that long, just the first one by a party called Conservatives.

A very short version of the history is that for a long time the BC Liberals were our right wing party (despite the name). I don’t mean that in a “both sides” or “they aren’t left enough for me” sense, I mean they were basically fully aligned with the federal Conservative party in Canada, and they just had the Liberal name for whatever historical reason. Everyone here kinda knew that the Liberals were our right wing. They tried a while back to rebrand to BC United and then not long after kind of imploded and threw their support behind the BC Conservatives a couple elections ago, and a bunch of the former Liberal MPs joined that party (while others went independent, third parties, or just lost jobs).

The Liberals ran things from 2001-2017ish. So we’ve had small-c conservatives a lot in BC in recent history, the only difference is that we have capital-C conservatives now. I guess we’re all about to find out whether that’s more of the same from them or something worse.

BC has the same problem as the US Congress and Electoral College: Land holds more power than voters:

The BC Conservatives got 64 of 93 seats with 48.1% of the vote.

This is not a land share issue, it is what happens when you total the counts of many mini-elections as we do. 2000 votes for green, 8000 for ndp, and 9000 for cons. That’s a con win and a seat with 10000 votes getting thrown out. Multiply that for each district and you get a low vote share win.

Until we can get rid of FPTP this will keep happening. And good luck doing that when any elected party suddenly seems happy to keep it.

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to end woke in BC for good. I am pleased with the outcome. Goodbye DRIPA and good riddance.

Like I said in another comment, I’m willing to take a financial hit if it means ending progressive policies. What the Indigenous have been allowed to do is unacceptable.

Never underestimate the ability of conservative dupes to vote against their own interests if they believe it will harm some minority group that they hate.

Then regret their votes after the harm comes to themselves.

            Then do the same again.

Anything that’s pro-trans, pro-Indigenous, pro-Indian, anti-Israel, pro-Muslim, etc. A policy like DEI for example is woke and needs to end along with anything that messes with the status quo of old stock Canadians like me.

          old stock Canadians like me.

I like how you people have to use euphemisms instead of proudly saying “White supremacist Canadians like me”.

It goes to show you already conceded. You’re not getting your “white christian country” in Canada. No matter how hard you try or how much you cry.

The Cons have a majority government and can push through any legislation they want without having to cooperate with the parties. This is good for me because it means HRC and DRIPA are done.
