Instead of “it is what it is” try saying “The Tao that can be trodden is not the enduring and unchanging Tao.”
Nah. Too long.
It’s what it’s.
Just so you can enjoy some technically correct English
If you want a linguistic deep dive how this isn’t correct:

Boomhauer: Man I tell you what Hank, about that dang ol’ meaning of life man, it’s like this man: It’s like butterfly flapping his wings, and gon’ cause a tree fall. Ain’t nobody see it nobody don’t doesn’t even happen. Baby’s born into this world, ain’t no goddamn friends. Find out all about let alone evil’s about. Or like a dang ol’ candle in the wind. It don’t matter man. Now I think therefore you are, man. It’s like you born into this world man, just like dust in the wind. You don’t even know man.
Hank: … well, that’s what we tell ourselves isn’t it.

Thanks for the tip!
Thought-terminating cliche. I just wanted to write those 3 words because I’m so proud it’s one of very few facts I have in my brain & is easily retrievable without any research or strain.
We know a few people that use this pithy phrase. I completely agree that the saying is sort of a cop-out. Accepting the situation (presumably), whatever it is, without seeking a better or more palatable solution. It isn’t always a serious issue, but certainly don’t capitulate if it is.
It’s the common retort of middle managers whenever subordinates complain about upper management. God forbid that you actually advocate for change, much easier to just keep your head down and accept a managerial paycheck.
wouldn’t it be the person saying it that gets punched?
No, cats get these things on their nose when their owners say “it is what it is” too much. It’s the weirdest thing.
ah ok, I’m not very familiar with cats. thank you

Well, we are where we are
I prefer “it will or it won’t” for those questions of things which are out of our control.
