tankie = a person who thinks that USSR quelling the Budapest uprising by deploying the army (hence tanks) was the right choice; nowadays it’s used been co-opted as a derogatory for any revolutionary socialist and/or anti-imperialist

socdems = social democrats = a wide spectrum of views somewhere between liberalism and socialism; either liberals recognizing that capitalism needs a lot of regulation to work, or socialists trying to reform the bourgeois state from within using existing democratic institutions.

Mamdani = socdem mayor of New York, a self-proclaimed socialist trying to reform the city by becoming the mayor, with moderate to good success

<x>-pilled = the person understands or aligns with <x> which is against the dominant societal ideology, originally from “redpilled” from the Matrix movies, where Neo takes the red pill to wake up from The Matrix and realizes everything around him has been a lie

get the girl = be attractive enough to be in a relationship and/or get laid

      Therefore:

“Face it, revolutionary socialist: reformist socialists who align with Mamdani are attractive to girls and have relationships”

I’m pretty sure there’s a certain degree of irony here, but this is the literal interpretation at least.

“Tankie” can be co-opted as an insult against all leftists, but many leftists use it to specify authoritarian leaning Marxist-Leninists or Maoists. Equating the term as mainly referring to “any revolutionary socialists and/or anti-imperialists” is uninformed at best, and disingenuous normalization at worst. Authoritarian Marxism has never and will never be tolerated on 196, just like any authoritarianism from any ideology. Consider this a final warning.

Excellent high effort explanation! But just a small clarification, I think usually the way people refer to

either liberals recognizing that capitalism needs a lot of regulation to work, or socialists trying to reform the bourgeois state from within using existing democratic institutions.

Is that the former are social democrats and the latter are democratic socialists. But I agree there’s a spectrum of views between the two.

Wait, a .ml user confusing socialists and social democrats? That kind of blunder is reserved for .world users!

Jokes aside, social democrats and socialists are mutually exclusive. Social democracy is capitalism, socialism is by definition not.

Nowadays the umbrella is pretty broad, people like Mamdani are often indeed called or identify as socdems, and yet they’re also reformist socialists.

I just had a brainfart and swapped the words “democratic” and “socialist” around, my bad

I would argue that “tankie” isn’t an antirevolutionary term. It refers to authoritarian sympathizing “leftists”, but opposing authoritarianism doesn’t make you against revolution inherently. I mean, if a revolution were to happen tomorrow I wouldn’t be opposed. Yet, I’m not a tankie.
