I’d say good but still affordable would be Fenjiu and Luzhou Laojiao.
My favourite is unfortunately the paint thinner they sell as Erguotou, I can’t get enough of the sorghum fragrance but to the uninitiated it just tastes like burning. It is the cheapest one but you can also get more mellow aged versions depending on availability in your region.

Its alternate names are Burn wine or an archaic apothecary unit of measurement.
In my admittedly linited experience there are two kinds of rice booze:
“Oh this is kind of nice”
And
“Is this my divine punishment?”
Have thankfully never tried the latter. Soju goes down like water for me…I don’t understand comments about the harsh taste, am I an alcoholic
