One of my first IT jobs in the early 2000’s was managing customer DNS and e-mail boxes for a service provider. I would often have to kick start global propagation of a domain by adding nonsense to their url and removing it, forcing the domain to start propagation… a foo record.

Now imagine having to check the url to make sure the change worked. Now imagine it was German shit porn. My lunch was ruined on multiple occasions.

That wasn’t even the worst. We had a section of our run book that was all about contacting the FBI if what we found was bad, and sometimes it was.

Maybe at first, but my understanding from people who have worked in the adult entertainment industry is that you just kinda get desensitized towards it all. Like, yeah, you might still get a little reaction if something is especially freaky, but in most cases? Nah, just another day.

We, as a species, are incredibly good at adapting to whatever is going on.

Kudos to the anal team for their work this week, we saw a 33% increase in butt-fucking consumption. Let’s give it up for those guys!

I once interviewed for the company that owns chaturbate, not knowing what their product was. They sold me on a really cool job working in a difficult and interesting problem space solving real time video streaming globally and I was really interested.

Then they told me what their product was.

What a let down that was.

I managed to get another offer and dropped out, and they were like “we can match anything they give”. Must be hard to find people willing to work in the industry.

A friend of mine worked as a dev at an adult video provider (not Pornhub) and they… didn’t care for their coworkers. The office vibe was similar to working at a strip club. It was so seedy they expected the floors to be sticky

Every company that has a web browser as part of their project has to make sure porn works. It very quickly stops being interesting.
