We tend to look at negatives… but what’s something you really like about this time of year?
The shift in the light, how the sun seems more like muted gold this time of year when it’s filtered through the changing leaves. It also marks the beginning of wood stove season and I love building and tending our hearth fire and the way the smell of other folks’ fires add to the autumn feels for me. How vocal the wind becomes when there are leaves to blow about in it. The darker mornings giving me some moon and star company on the way to work. The closing of the year and the remembrance of ancestors and honoring the cycles that envelop us all very much appeals to my witchy nature.
I live in an area that the seasons don’t change much and the average temp all year round is about 70F. Most of the year, everything has a layer of dust on it because it’s so dry. During this time of year, my favorite is when it rains. Everything looks fresh and clean and all the succulents and plants grow and become very green. It makes me appreciate the green more, I love living in a more arid climate.
Lack of sweat, especially at work.
Also, I’ve become quite fond of the smell of cinnamon, to the point where I’ve gotten cinnamon brooms to put in my closets so they smell that way year round 🙂
I looooovveee cinnamon. I love the taste, I love the smell, it’s my all time favourite spice
Its not to warm outside, so you dont sweat, but its cold enough that it gets cozy when you go inside.
I prefer cooler temperatures, so Autumn is my time of year. I like the late-blooming plants. The flocking birds as they prepare to fly to Hainan or whatever. The earlier dark evenings (not like winter which gets too dark too quickly, nor like summer which can be to bright at bedtime). I love the harvests that roll out (like right now is pumpkin season; so much stir-fried pumpkin, pumpkin flatbreads, pumpkin soups, etc.).
I forgot about flocking birds! Nature is amazing
Pumpkin patches, apple picking, the sweet smell of autumn when you’re out for a walk.
Driving at night to see people’s Halloween decorations.
Chocolates are on sale!
Raking up leaves into a big pile.
Using superglue to make decorations with pine cones and leaves.
Also it snowed yesterday.
I’m in Australia, can I still play? It’s the windy season, here, spring is lighting up all the cherry blossoms, but it’s wild weather, part to the season, warm days, then pelting torrential rains and cold fronts that hit like a punch in the teeth. One day might be tshirt weather, the next day you need all the layers and the warmest coat you have. Weirdly enough, I love the chaos. It feels like every season drops by for a display of grandeur. And the you Drift off to sleep, to the sounds of rain on the roof.
Of course you can play! We are inclusive of people from Oz. Drifting off to sleep in the rain is lovely
I like the way Spooky Season embraces the taming of the sun and the coming of the dark. I like the way the Santa Ana Winds make the leaves fly (even though they don’t get very colorful here) and make the kitties sparky. And I’m looking forward to the extra hour next weekend.
That’s a really good description of spooky season, thanks. And I’d forgotten about the extra hour! Score!
I get to wear cozy sweaters and snuggle under blankets.
I like the colours of the trees, it’s really colourful now, and I like the free food you find when walking outside, like walnuts, apples and some berries🌸
So cozzzzy, and the BEST flavours!
