If you see disapproval then flip the bird and continue. If you see anything else wave and continue.
I don’t think you trust… in… your… self righteous singing time.

SOAD mentioned?!?! I love SOAD :3
I could be wrong but I think people underestimate how pleasant it is to see someone just having a good time. It always brings a smile to my face to see people doing things like this, or dancing, or some other joyful activity.
At a pub recently, a woman who was also queuing for a drink was bopping along to the background music, and she started singing a lil. I reflexively looked in her direction, which seemed to cause her to stop singing, presumably out of self consciousness. I was devastated that I had inadvertently impeded her ability to have fun.
I decided that I would start humming along to the music in a low key way, in hopes that she would feel less silly, and perhaps even think “the woman who looked over at me was just someone else who enjoys this song”. After a few minutes, she started singing again. Maybe it was nothing to do with my actions, but I was delighted nonetheless.
There were no direct interactions between me and the singing woman. I received my drink and left the area. On reflection, it was a very British interaction
The double takes I get when I heely across a parking lot fuel me. I gotta be nonchalant about it of course but sometimes I get a “YO HOLY SHIT” reaction and I gotta give em a shit eating grin.
I caught a woman rocking out in her car in traffic and maintained eye contact until she saw me.
Then we both smiled.
I think its just really freaking hard to internalize that fact for whatever reason. I’m 100% with you that it makes my day to see someone lost in a moment of joy like that, but the idea of being caught in one myself is mortifying. It makes no damn sense!
If you can’t rock out in your car, where can you? As long as the windows are up and you aren’t rattling the neighborhood with bass, go nuts.
It’s a hell of a lot better than the woman I saw the other day having a loud argument on the phone with it connected to the stereo, with the windows open, at a stoplight.
The amount of times I’ve stopped myself from ordering an air vent Cymbal attachment so I could rock out harder should be studied…
Yeah, but it’s still embarrassing lol just imagine a dude going crazy in his car, I be he would get some looks
Yeah some looks of admiration. Go dude go!
There’s a woman in my town who often has her music pretty loud, windows down and singing along for all to hear. I can’t help but smile when I see a free spirit like that
I ride around with a sound system on my bike.
It used to be “How can u pedestrians complain about silent bikes sneaking up on you scaring the living daylights outta ya when you turn around to look at what idiot is playing music while in the bike lane”.
and now I’m all like
“I’m an idiot haha look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!”
Feels good man.
So what? I’m not at work, I also sing quitle when I walk in the road.
I think old age has hit me… I do this, windows down (though not too loud) and more than happy to make eye contact with people while I sing along. I’ve taken to smiling, thumbs upping good driving behavior, etc, since I feel everyone around me is miserable in 2025.
Yeah I like to whistle a merry tune sometimes when I walk past a person or two, because hopefully it encourages thoae two to too
Alright gramma/gramps, I’m old too but if it’s not a residential area I’m driving through, you’d better believe I’m BLASTIN it (my car came with a sub, too)
…I’m also gramma/gramps because when I’m at a stop light next to someone with their window down or see someone talking on their telephone, I turn my sound down until I’m not near them anymore…
Welcome to old age. It has its perks. Rock on!
For me, the best part of being old is that hopefully I’ll be dead before the shit really hits the fan.
eh, the car itself is already recording you.
Ypu see that beautiful stick shift? I don’t think that one’s recording quite yet.
we do have some time to enjoy the older fleet while we have them, that’s for sure.
another reason I love my 80s civic wagon.
awesome. i didnt know these existed.
Can’t say that and not post pics…
its kinda in pieces currently. planning full repaint and upholster. If I remember next time I’m over there I’ll take some
I was once rocking out to heavier shit I am pretty sure I sound like shit singing (specifically Animal I Have Become by 3 Days Grace) while on lunch in my work van just parked somewhere and a woman walked by and complimented me, which of course made me turn it off, roll my windows up, and become a turtle inside my jacket. You know, a normal reaction.
An honest one though lol

Don’t bother being embarrassed for being yourself. Society has proven to be a bit shit, so why cater to how it thinks you should behave?
Life is better after you realize between 66% and 75% of humans are idiots while the rest consists of 90% consensus-driven individuals. Everything makes sense after that. I pity the fool rather than detest him and it’s easier to stay ahead of the curve since I no longer ponder if it is I or the world who is crazy.
your definition of idiot is probably overgenerous. I’d lower that percentage quite a bit.
Not according to how I interpret statistics. 🤷♀️
I still remember the time I got caught doing this in traffic as two lanes merged. The tow truck drivers next to me were definitely cracking up.
Saw this exact scene on a Chicago interstate one day. Pretty blonde girl was belting it out. She was so joyful it made me feel great. Then she saw me smiling at her and shrunk down in her seat. Great, now I feel bad for cutting of her joy. :(
should have clapped
