I mean, if I understand aright, if he resigned now, there’d still be deadlock. Like, it wouldn’t really solve the three-way split in the legislature.
Yes and no. The president has an oversized amount of power and influence over the rest of the government in the French 5th republic. While it wouldn’t automatically resolve the split, said split is so bad in part because of macron’s continual disdain for the opinions of others over the past 8 years he’s been president.
Changing presidents could open up political leeway to restore some confidence towards the government from the general population (myself included), which itself could ease the split back into a more traditional political spectrum.
Of course, even if he resigned, the chances of us getting a president that won’t be beholden to or captured by financial interests are still slim.
Over 3/4 disapprove.
He cant resign even if he would want to, cause it would tank frances credi(t)bility.
No more than deadlock and a rotation of prime ministers.
