I’m genuinely laughing out loud, such a wild comment out of left field caught me totally off guard. I don’t think I’ve seen such stupid malice in actual years

Anyone who has this strong of a reaction to something so inconsequential must be a deeply unhappy person. It sucks to suck.

Also, anyone who calls someone a ‘fag’ is a complete fucking moron. I doubt things will improve for them with so few brain cells to work with.

In what way did they troll me? Did somebody call them a fag or not? If so, I don’t care what their justification was, that person is an asshole.

I would also like to have nice little messages in my inbox. I run Linux though. Debian Stable to be exact. If you run anything else you are wrong and stupid.

I’m currently in the process of converting over; have a dual boot and will probably leave it that way for the next year.

It is NOT, by any measure, that Linux is annoyance free and perfectly designed. It’s that Windows has been building up its annoyances in competition, so that going penguin takes a considerable measure of bloat off.

We’re at a point where some games are just performing better through Proton than running right on Windows.

I dual boot as well, and the only thing I’ve booted my windows install for was to work around a driver issue where my headset mic was no longer detected. Other than that, and troubleshooting why flat packs weren’t launching, my install of Bazzite has been rock solid.

Good plan. You’ll definitely find things you don’t like along the way and struggle. And having something to get things done in a crunch is useful. Just keep learning and in the end you’ll have all the tools you need and it’ll be great.

We should all celebrate having the good fortune of not being like that guy.

I don’t dislike linux, I dislike all the work people mention to me when I say I don’t use it because I’m as lazy as futurama’s lazy moon man. The response to that is usually a long list of taks they claim to be a very easy way to install Linux. I don’t care how hard or easy it is. I only do one thing. If I have to do two things, that’s too many things to do.

Call me when someone makes a distro that is as lazy as an android phone: press a button, all gets done on its own.

      Most of it is habits

You’re used to windows so it doesn’t seem like that to you

If you do simple normie stuff, it’s super easy. For more advanced users, yea it’ll require some knowledge

There’s a difference between being lazy and being unwilling to learn. I’m not trying to proselytize at you, but Linux can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be. Shit, I’m lazy too lol.

I’m running Cachyos because everything worked right out of the box with my hardware and it plays all my games without having to configure anything besides clicking on the “install gaming packages” button. It’s based on Arch though so you could install that instead and set it all up yourself to tweak it to your heart’s content. That’s kind of the beauty of it.

For real, I am even calling over friends for help to set up a Windows PC or a printer. I have absolutely no idea about technology and computers. I want something easy and mainstream because this way I have an easier time getting support. Two steps are one step too much. I have a lot of strengths but understanding tech is definitely not one of them. And frankly, I neither have the time nor interest to learn anything about it. I have a great respect for linux and I have fond memories of playing a game on my dad’s computer, but it’s not something that’s for me.

I really learned to appreciate the Linux people after meeting the FOSS crowd. These people literally make me want to pay for software.

There is definitely an overlap but I think Linux users are more like vegetarians, they cut out the commercial OS from their diet and are content with that. FOSS people are more like militant vegans … they won’t be happy unless everyone else has to use the shitty software they do.

“Shitty software”??? Basically most of non-FOSS software is shitty. Its not because we want to use shitty software, but we better use shitty software that gets better overtime, than shitty software that only gets worse. Also why everyone else has to use it?? Idgaf what you use, but I’m only angry, when you decide to pay for shit software, instead of donating the better and more free software, thats the only thing that makes me angry about people.

i mean, there are degrees to everything

Just a year or two ago I would’ve said that i don’t even understand why linux exists. Now i’d rather say that windows should stop being a thing asap, as it brings nothing but problems and stagnation to consumer electronics, and nowadays it goes the same for any major proprietary software piece.

What can i say, i hope the era of corpos is nearing its end, and we’re the witnesses

also, how would others know about all that cool free stuff that i found, that’s actually cooler that the paid one 🥺🥺🥺

foss doest have any marketing budgets, so of course foss users would blabber about it all over the place.

                “is veganism a virtue”

sounds like a topic for a debate

like, it certaily is on paper, from a moral standpoint of causing less harm to the environmant

but “the environmant” is a really vague term. After all, by not allowing John Flesheater have his steak, you’re still technically harming an animal, just morally this time :D (and possibly in terms of health a bit, if there are some kind of external dietary limitations in a given local region)

Another problem is that farm animals don’t talk much about their feelings, ro we can’t really know if we’re actually harming them, thus we can’t say whether we’re helping them by stopping the process.

But that raises another question: “how one would know if they’re happy, if they never experienced happiness?”

I think veganism is a vanity that we can afford given the right circumstances, that some cultures also try to dress up as a virtue. So if one derives joy or piece of mind from it, they shoule do it as long as they do.

oof sorry, not coming drunk to lemmy again :D

Pure cope. We know how badly animals are hurt by factory farming methods, and there isn’t a non-factory method that I’m aware of that can meet the demand for meat.

But that raises another question: “how one would know if they’re happy, if they never experienced happiness?”

How do I know you’ve ever been happy? I’ve never seen it, so I can assume you haven’t, right? (This is how nonsensical your argument sounds. We can see farm animals get excited about things the experience, like happy cows skipping to their field)

judging by the depth of reasoning of my opponents so far, veganism is not only not a virtue, it’s a cope of the fact that ahy life form is inherenly cruel towards the other in a system with limited resources.

I’d like to be dabated tho, cuz it sounds kinda not nice.
