Untraceable gun + no fingerprints + left at the scene = no actionable evidence. Carry the gun with you, get stopped by a cop during the massive manhunt = get caught Realistic TV shows and films will do exactly this (like Godfather, The Sopranos, The Wire, etc.)
But why? What possible benefit would there be beyond one more possible way of being caught?

Gun to owner
Gun to shooter
Standard evidence trial
Good call, carrying the gun on your person instead makes more sense.
