Its good for US oil companies. This gives an excuse to jack up prices at the pump even if supply isn’t disrupted.
Remember that Americans are car-brained as hell. Gas prices rising due to scarcity will lead to massive price increases in peoples cost of living, which might genuinely lead to popular revolt. Like, Americans are already getting squeezed from all sides, so any increase in un-avoidable expenses is going to have repercussions.
This won’t be Iraq.
During the build up to the Iraq War, we saw large scale logistical preparations that went on for months and months as military transports and personnel were being deployed in the region (e.g. through Morocco).
There are some planes being flown over to the Middle East and some fleet being deployed right now, but most likely just for launching air strikes. No signs of ground invasion.
The difference is, Trump doesn’t want an invasion, he just doesn’t want to look “weak”. The war in Iran is more likely to unfold like the Vietnam war- a colonial power bites off more than it can chew so the US steps in to help them, slowly at first, and then after a few years it and a gulf of tonkin later the US is fully committed and kids are out on the street burning their draft cards.
The good news is, it means that there will be a lag between the time the war kicks of and the time America is prepared to fight it effectively. A lot can happen in that time, and the public support for invading Iran is already WAY smaller than the support for invading Iraq, and Americans haven’t even started dying yet. This feels like the tsar picking a fight with Japan. It will radicalize a lot of people
It feels like this time everyone knows it’s a lie and we’ve kinda resigned ourselves to the fact that war is pretty much like the weather and it’s going to happen regardless of what people say and whether it’s even true. The government is just going through a fixed action pattern.

How militarily capable is Iran compared to Iraq then? Is there even any chance they could meaningfully defend themselves from partial-scale US attacks?
At least one thing in Iran’s favor is that they have known the USA is a military enemy since… well… since the Mullah was installed and again as Iraq was used by the USA to fight a proxy war against Iran in the 80’s for almost 10 years.
Iran is also much larger than Iraq with an actual navy.

Ukrainian nazis ending up in Iran would probably be the second best place for them to be, since I imagine that they would be getting smoked by just about anyone who can pick up a riffle. Obviously the best place for those nazis is as fertilizer for a field somewhere in Ukraine.

That’s what my money is on. That plus special forces plus mercenaries plus MEK, ISIS, kurds, whoever else they can rope in “moderate rebels” types proxy groups controlled by the west sent in for on the ground harassment and hit and run strikes to attempt to destabilize the government and bring the whole thing down. That plus numerous hacking attacks bringing down things like water, power, gas, internet, banking etc to further cook and beleaguer the Iranian population into either defeated submission or wanting/accepting change of government due to the sheer chaos.
Iran really should have 1) gotten nukes. 2) insisted Russia allow them to produce at least s-400 equivalent air defense systems as part of helping them with Ukraine. With a few dozen of those they could possibly inflict enough damage on the US that they’d retreat or never enter in the first place if they were shooting down the IOF air force these past few days.
I can’t imagine an actual invasion. No matter how hard I try I can’t. I can imagine a full declaration of war and bombing raids but not an invasion. I can imagine Trump nuking Iran before trying land troops.

I genuinely hate this; I’ve read about stuff our troops did to people in Iraq (which I really don’t want to type out cause it’s monstrous, but it’s the kind of stuff you expect out of Israel) and it disgusts me to think of what the troops will do to the people of Iran; I remember a tweet by a reporter who said that every news they went to refused to publish a list of crimes they’d documented from sources such as the military themselves because they said it was ‘depressing’.
I hate reading from all these dishonest people about how we’re supposedly going there to help the Iranians when in reality it’s because the average American is a bootlicker and is only going along with it because they go along with every hostile tendency of our government.
9/11 didn’t just happen and Americans aren’t gonna be signing up for the military like.they were then. They still gotta do an entire ear and occupy and stuff. They can’t hand Iran over to Israel and go home after Mission Accomplished. Theyre just not gonna have enough guys to even repeat the mistakes of the previous wars let alone do a better job and those wars lasted 20 fucking years, people in the military now remember them
