At least in Dungeon Meshi, there is a canonical explanation. The dungeon cleaners (episode 16) would make sure that all the floors/walls are maintained.

That is the logo for Studio Trigger, which animated the anime.

I am not really that familiar with the non-premium experience on CR (or the dub version of the show), so I can’t really help you too much there. Sailing the high seas of the internet is always an option. As much as I am an advocate for supporting official distribution channels, sometimes they are just really, really bad (HiDIVE used to be horrendous, but has gotten a bit better with some time).

I LOVE cooking at home

Oh man, you are speaking my language. I just wrote about how I have become a fan of the cooking genre of anime/manga as I have gotten older. If you haven’t seen it, you might want to check out Campfire Cooking in Another World. It does a bit of a mix between fantasy ingredients and irl brands and ingredients.

As for Episode 11, the thing that made it really stand out to me was how the OST was employed and it marked a major turning point for the show in tone. I wrote a ton more about it in the episode discussion thread. Now that you have watched it, you can go in without worrying about spoilers.

Episode 11 was one of my favorite single episodes of anime in the past year for me. Look forward to it!

This is an excellent point that I thought about when a previous community I was active in got shut down on the ml instance due to some admin whims. Since then, for the two communities I run, I have an external wiki that I maintain with things like complete rules or an index of past weekly discussion threads, etc. These wikis are set up on a VPS that I am responsible for, independent of the host instance of my communities.

ani.social and the admin, @hitagi@ani.social, has been excellent, and the instance is a logical place for anime/manga communities. I have also tried to keep up donations to keep the server running, but people’s lives change, not always by choice. Having some form of communication independent of the lemmy instance makes sense for those scenarios, if for nothing else except for communicating a migration to a different instance.

Not the OP, but…most instances (including ani.social) auto-convert any uploaded images to webp to save storage space since they are run on user donations. That conversion will impact image quality.

Edit: Also, this is semi-automated through some post-creation tools by the OP and some of the booru images are really, really big. So, having a reasonably sized version makes sense for the formatting.

I didn’t mention it in my post, but the animation work during that gargoyle fight sequence was something else. They got real stylized and wacky with it in the best way possible.

This is fantastic.

Filterable post flairs and instance-agnostic links are my two biggest wish list items that I think would go a long way to making that specific community much nicer (speaking as a mod).

Lots of Kabru hate in this thread so far. I don’t get it. He is an ambitious and goal-oriented person. He even has a noble goal of ending the dungeon’s curse to prevent monsters from spilling out and killing people. He will see it done, no matter how many people he has to kill to make it happen! Wait…

I really like Kabru (maybe not as a friend though). He is a bit like an adventurer version of Sherlock Holmes. He seems to be extremely observant and has a lot of insight into people. However, he doesn’t seem to have his version of Watson nearby to help act as his conscience. I am curious to know what the endgame he has in mind if/when he comes into contact with Laios’s party. He doesn’t seem like the type to simply want revenge for a perceived slight. I get the feeling there are machinations at work below the surface with his character that we don’t have insight into yet.

As for the other members of his party, Kuro and Mickbell were fun. I laughed at her basically saying “OK Boomer” to the idea of Chilchuck. Also, Kuro is a good boy, a very loyal boy. It was a nice touch that he was simply confused while under the illusion. I assume its because what he was seeing was not matching up with what he was smelling. The last one I wanted to mention is Rinsha. I swore I recognized her voice, only to look it up and find out it was Megumin herself, Rie Takahashi. So, no wonder Kazuma Kabru wanted to prevent her from getting a spell off.

Finally, we got to see Shuro’s new party. Seems like he went with a different plan to try to get to Falin, reuniting with his fellow countrymen. I am looking forward to seeing more of this group as they seem quite capable. Also, I am not sure how Shuro is going to react when he hears about everything that has happened with Laios’s group while they were separated.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Dungeon Meshi had an exclusive interview with the mushroom monster that they published for April Fool’s. It’s in Japanese and I didn’t have the patience/energy to work my way through it, but the pictures were funny.

Man, it is so nice to see a happy and healthy Marcy again. The whole episode felt different in tone after the stew. Here’s hoping that our intrepid group can proceed a bit smoother from here. If I remember correctly, they are just ~2 days away from where the dragon is. However, the anime viewer me knows that we are simply on episode 9/24, so there is a lot of story left to go.

Earlier today, I read through the latest production notes entry from Sakugablog about this series and I think it applies to this episode a lot. The basic premise was that Trigger has been smart and deliberate about what episodes/sequences they invest time/money into. This episode is one in which they could stay relatively restrained in their animation, and instead rely on the incredible voice talent to convey a lot of the emotion instead. Things like the barely concealed hostility in Marcy’s and Namari’s voices when they reunite for the first time make it obvious how they are feeling.

Speaking of Namari, her death really shocked me. It came out of nowhere so suddenly. I think that helped get across just how casually death is often perceived by adventurers in the dungeon. It was fortunate that there was somebody in the group that could heal Marcille though. So, you might have been a bit of a dick gnome-dude, but you were a bro when it counted.

Finally, I was happy to see some of the magical genius side of Marcille this episode. I get the impression that coming up with the idea of cooking/eating spirits to regain magic is not a standard thing that is done. So, she managed to connect several magical knowledge dots together to come up with a solution that allowed her to continue their quest. I work professionally in the sciences and this is what innovation looks like. Often, all the principles have existed for a while, it just needs the right connections to be drawn between them for a new discovery to be made and put to use.

Your lead image, where he is intimidating the basilisk, killed me. I don’t often literally laugh out loud while watching anime, but the VA work during that scene came so out of nowhere and was so different than the normal character that it caught me really off guard.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but I am glad that they are setting up Marcille to be more than just a gag character. She hasn’t really gotten to show off yet (other than accidentally during this episode), but I know it’s coming.

Also, seeing all the great reaction faces Marcille has really makes me appreciate that Studio Trigger is doing this series. Some of the best parts of Little Witch Academia were the really cartoony antics of Akko, and Marcille is living up to that heritage. They way she was animated while under the effects of the mandrake was derpy as hell, but I loved it.
