You can pass a string to a function parameter annotated as int and Python will happily accept it (assuming the function does not attempt to call a method that a string doesn’t have).

I had a very similar path, and would probably have responded similarly. I’ve also been on the other side of it and believing with high confidence that taking a transition step would help someone be happier. I didn’t push her on it.
