Exactly. Democracy is famously the only system which allows to be dismantled through its own tools. That is why the German system is called “Wehrhafte Demokratie” (defensive democracy) to not end up like the Weimar Republic.

Don’t really like it though as it is a bs expression used by employers to discredit workers that do exactly what they were employed for and don’t gift the employer their free time. You’re completely leaving out why they are doing this and that the €XU are the ones trying to fish votes from far right by doing exactly the same thing: Taking the far right talking points as their own and making a policy trying to “fix” those issues. So then SPD is trying to fish votes from right next to them and become more rightwing themselves. Etc. In the end there is no real left wing party anymore, just dumb Putin worshippers and guess who wins? Still the far right, and everybody is like: How could this have been prevented? My point being: All the established parties play the same game not realizing that if you play by the far rights rules you cannot win at all. It’s not at all unique to the current government.

I totally agree. I’m just saying there’s a huge cost factor to take into account, plus it’s not easy to transform an industry so huge.

You honestly think anybody would be working those hours if they don’t even own anything? Also, if the state did what they do, employ a whole lot of foreign people and pay them way below the minimum wage, the outcry would be extreme. The state needs this to be private, otherwise it would be way more expensive.
