Full disclosure - my background is in operations (think IT) not AI research. So some of this might be wrong.

What’s marketed as AI is something called a large language model. This distinction is important because AI implies intelligence - where as a LLM is something else. At a high level LLMs are using something called “tokens” to break apart natural language into elements that a machine can understand, and then recombining those tokens to “create” something new. When a LLM is creating output it does not know what it is saying - it knows what token statistically comes after the token(s) it has generated already.

So to answer your question. An AI can hallucinate because it does not know the answer - its using advanced math to know that the period goes at the end of the sentence. and not in the middle.

And even then your neighbors need to be sure they have removed every roach. And their neighbors…

NATO is a defence alliance, the world bank was made to rebuild Europe, the IMF was designed to keep currencies of members stable, and the EU was made to keep France and Germany (and later Italy) from killing each other again in 20 years (believe it or not it’s hard to go to war with your trading partner). Taken together they are the core institutions responsible for the relative safety of the entire western hemisphere in the wake of WW2.

I do not own the fruit of my labor. If I am unemployed for an extended period of time I will lose my home. Sure I am not struggling to pay my bills (for now, but I could be hot with a layoff at any time), and sure the numbers that flow through my bank account are unmanageable for a lot of people. But at the end of the day I have a lot more on common with someone making federal minimum wage then I have with someone who owns the means of production.

Having taken a grand total of 30 seconds to glance at your post history - it’s due to the politely formal language you use. I’m going to guess one of the two things - English is not your primary language, and or your extremely well read in English literature.

I’m gonna guess it’s related to leap day. Someone rolled there own time date module and a weekly cron job.

So I don’t spend time in the NSFW space - but some quick googling leads me to think that only fans is ok with AI provided you are over 18 and your not doing deep fakes.

So I’m one of those people without an internal monologue ( but I can choose to subvocalize if I want).

I don’t know if this will help you understand but for me everything is quiet. All the time. I don’t say to myself “I should take a bite of the apple” - I just take a bite. As I type this reply out I have not determined what the next world will be before writing it, I just write. If I need to build a mental image it is simply there.

When I need to make a decision, is made. I might have been pondering it for some time, but it’s not a surface thought. Again I can subvocalize - but it’s more speaking to the room as opposed to having an internal argument.

And when I say quiet, I mean quiet. I did not realize for most of my life that monologues in books where anything more then a story telling device.

Do read it. But also keep in mind the time the books where published.

Honestly I think the fedverse (or it’s successors) will adopt some of the components of tor (or it’s successors) and merge into something new.

Fair warning. For me book 3 was a bit of a slog, but seeing everything come together in book 4 was worth it.

Story time! There is series by Tad Williams called “otherland” - it’s a rift in the standard stuck in vr story.

Anywho. There is a group of hackers, weirdos and nerds who did not like the corporate vr experience and built their own (treehouse). In all honesty it’s an expansion of the tor project.

But it’s what I hope for. A place to end up in the web that’s not saturated to hell and back by corporate interests, and you need to know someone for the ladder to be let down and you to be let in.
