World News@lemmy.world•AI sell-off intensifies as investors ditch chip stocksEnglish
352·12 days agoThe only thing separating this from being a Ponzi scheme is that there is a product, and it does have value. It’s overblown for sure, but it’s not a pure Ponzi scheme.
I’m sorry, what? They knowingly enabled a sex offender to break the law? And all they face is fines that the church will pay (at best), and have to “step down”? Everyone in that chain of leadership and decision making should be prosecuted criminally.

politics @lemmy.world•GOP lawmaker arrested after allegedly sexually abusing a middle schooler in a classroom
1193·17 days agoI just sent this to their contact us page.
This article https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2026/07/gop-lawmaker-arrested-after-allegedly-having-with-middle-schooler-in-a-classroom/ Titled as “allegedly having sex with middle schooler” is trash rape culture wording. You cannot “have sex” with a child. That is rape. Period, Your readers expect better than to white wash crimes against children like this. Statutory rape is rape. Sex with a child is rape. There is no consent, and thus, no obligation for you to sugar coat article wording like this. Please do better.
I think the point is, they are scraping any possible data points they can over any tech/frequency/etc. NFC is unlikely unless that is pushed alongside BTLE, BT, or WiFi.
FWIW, businesses deploy tech that does this too, just for pure greed purposes, rather than mass surveillance.

73·24 days agoIt’s not done with intent, just supreme neglect. Data centers that use this as a primary energy source shouldn’t exist. Data centers that have these as a backup to grid power have a legitimate reason for it.
