You’ll just get used to it over time. Think of it as spatial rather than numeric.
It’s actually easier on the brain in my opinion.

I think this is cool and will make it easier for the average person to move away from the big tech providers that do the most damage to privacy.
Faircamp is a great option for hosting yourself and Bandwagon is also federated. Both are free and open source and both have ‘label’ functionality, which means that a single computer-person can host many artists, in the same way as any other online music platform does but without the exploitation and cultural degradation.
In fact, if any other musicians reading this want to form a cooperative and share hosting and maintenance costs and desicion-making let me know. I’ve already been through the setup process myself with Faircamp. It would be cheap and have the same functionality as Bandcamp.
Libreoffice is rad and I use it all the time.
Crazy. DDoS attacks are illegal here in the UK.
Thanks for your work on both!
What is Intel Microcode anyway? Been bugging me for ages seeing it reported for violating vrms.
I think the original wasn’t getting maintained properly or something. There was a big conversation about it a couple of months ago on one of the open source communities here if you want to search for it. Nothing shady iirc.
It’s great. It’s the most “just works” experience I’ve had with Linux.
If you’re struggling with your windows plugins I highly recommend checking out kxstudio for native Linux ones. There are excellent plugins for audio production on linux. I also recommend using Ardour as your DAW.
Thanks :) I’m happy to chat to any musicians who read this and are curious about alternative release options.
These exploitation economies are a race to the bottom.
That’s exactly what they are and exactly what they do.
I don’t have any app suggestions for you but have been reading through the comments and just wanted to say that I’m 100% with you.
I have a similar conversation with other musicians I know and it’s the reason that I (and many others) won’t release anything on Spotify: Just being there adds value to them and what they do is destructive and dirty.
I hope you find something and keep standing up for what’s right!
Check out Kiwix for offline libraries like Wikipedia and TED
Your timing is excellent: Debian 13 is due for release on Saturday :)
Good one, especially for hikers and sailors 👍
Also have a look at Jami. You can use it for calls and sharing files.
I have a smartphone and a small dumbphone - one for work stuff and one for play. I have glued velcro to the backs of them, so they can be like one phone in my pocket. Ultimate flexibility.
YUNOhost FTW!
I would never have gotten into self-hosting without it.
