I’m out of the loop. What is it for?
Lactose-free milk is a thing, in case you’ve never heard of it.
on my devices
See that’s where we’re fucking up. If a company can install things on ”your” devices, it’s really their devices.
I came up with this idea more than 20 years ago as a way for cars to tell each other about events ahead of them. Imagine if you’re on a two-lane road heading away from an deer and you pass vehicles going the opposite direction. Your car could relay that information to then and have it age out after a few minutes.
They are literally cutting critical services to “cut out waste” while increasing the budget, likely lining their pockets. Look over here while we pick your pocket.
Remove all payment options for it and disable the renew. Piece of cake.

How is it air gapped and federated? Do you unairgap it periodically for a refresh then reairgap it? I’ve not heard of airgapped federated servers before and am intrigued. Is it purely for security purposes or also bandwidth savings? Are there other reasons one may want to run an air gapped instance?
Is it because video hosting is substantially more expensive than mostly text and some images (Lemmy and Mastodon) that it brings out that kind of behavior? As in they have more skin in the game so they try to protect it more? Any thoughts on the new Loops platform? Is it suffering from the same issues?

But it’s not PeerTube, it’s ABC’s PeerTube and BCD’s PeerTube and CDE’s PeerTube, etc.
I’m not opposed to a microservice that indexes the fediverse for creating a robust search index. Without it, you’d have to nearly search each server on each service.

Damn that is an astute observation.
