I would really love something like that, or like the phones made by hisense. I love e-inks and they fit very well my phone usage pattern. Too bad I was born in the poor side of the world and will never have the cool stuff

I don’t think it’s a fair comparison. The greatest aspect of e-ink screens is not giving strain to the eyes. Looking at a greyscale phone will just have the downsides of both worlds.

Have you seen the process used in plastic recycling? The plastic is literally triturated into tiny bits before being heated up for the next stages.

I didn’t mean the choice of image format is a monopolistic behavior, but that the monopoly puts google in a position that any choice they make, be it a good or bad one, becomes an industry standard, without others having any choice in it.

And here we have a clear example of how Chrome’s almost monopoly is a bad thing for us.

That’s what you get when you require users to get a new device in order to run newer software. I would gladly run the newest version, if I could just update my os, but since I can’t, I will be running this old version for as long as I have to…

I find the screen technology itself to be interesting, but it’s more a competition to e-ink devices than to common tablets. However, the price is too high to be well received, unfortunately. I love reading devices, but the best I could do is a 10yo refurbished one. I wonder why they’re always so expensive…

I’ve been looking for some e-ink tablets running android, and all the ones I found on chinese sites were sold with android 11.

I don’t blame the users. There’s usually no way to upgrade android versions, so we get stuck unless we replace the phone, and most people can’t afford to replace their phones so often. I’d go further and say that people shouldn’t be supposed to replace their phones because of a new software version. The android’s distribution model is flawed, we should be able to upgrade our phones the same way we upgrade linux distros. If it was possible, then I would blame users for running unmaintained software.

Do you have access to a computer with an sd card reader? I believe the best and safest thing to do is to connect it to a computer, create disk image from it and try ro use a data recovery tool in the image file.

Edit: if you only have the phone, maybe you could try looking for apps to copy a disk image from the sd card and to recover data or try using some terminal emulator or one of those apps that install a linux distro inside android to use the dd command and then use testdisk and photorec tools. I recommend the second option, because the tools are open sourc and well tested
