If you have your DMZ setup, put HA in that and only allow web access from your main network. Also with camera, there is a feature to allow direct access if you and the camera are on the same network.

Can confirm that zigbee is much better for IOT things, I find the zigbee stuff is quicker to react to events as there is not WiFI setup. Some WiFi devices running on batterys will have lag while they get WiFi link back up.

great job, I didnt go the self install route.But used HASSOS. The best thing I have had with HA is setting up a broadlink socket, the app could not connect. Turns out HA has seen them an linked up, blocking the app

You could have a look at a shelly 1L that might do it, put the shelly in the light fitting and wire the switches in to it

Have also updated, seemed to be broke. But a restart seems to have fixed it, no change to config needed

Home Assistant has a lot of moving parts, all the add-ons and extra user stuff. So they provide a docker image with everything you need, they also provide a full appliance install for easy setup.

If you did all that as a package install, you would complain about all the dependancies and if you didnt install the right version of something Home Assistant might not work at all
