The rule of law is not against democracy, it is the other way round: courts protect people and democracy from unlawful actions. In democracies (with all four pillars of power intact), no politician and no criminal stands above the law, even if those play their usual “victim” role, when caught.

If politicians do not want to be convicted by court, they should not break the law. Seems to be a simple rule to follow.

For me it started with online purchases of books when the web went commercial. Later still books, music and audio books (CD), movies (DVD, Blurays), electronics, computer consoles and games, physical games, PC hardware, and more often used goods via marketplace.

In Germany we also have many good alternatives. Online I use for example Thalia, Booklooker, Zweitausendeins, Technikdirekt, Roboter-Bausatz, Alternate, Rebuy, Medimops, Konsolekost, … And from Poland of course GOG, my favourite game store :)

Bol sounds familiar to me. We had Bol.de in Germany as good alternative (many?) years ago, but I do not know if it is related with Bol.com. At some point in time Bol.de has been taken over by Thalia and I am since then happy customer with them (and others of course).

In such case it may be helpful to provide information about every-day shopping-alternatives to the people you know and who are interested in good alternatives :)

An alternative was Paydirekt (Giropay) supported by my German bank. But while it worked quite fine, there where only very few supported sites (shops), for international payment it was more or less useless and end of last year 2024 the service has been discontinued.

It is frustrating to learn that from your experience Wero is also no good alternative for PP. Do you think there is anything we can do to persuade our banks that we want a different, better Wero? I have not so much hope for mine, but would be willing to use any serious EU bank providing a good PP alternative, which can be used worldwide.

Thanks a tons for the information, I was not aware of this and used Le Chat few times for my coding needs (with no IDE integration, but worked well).

This weekend my first scheduled backups were due during the night, and unfortunately I found my phone in recovery next morning. It was now in kind of “boot loop”, resetting shortly after logging into the phone.

Could stop this by quickly killing NeoBackup processes after login. Neo tried to again run the scheduled task each time, most likely as they before failed/did not run through.

So in summary it looks like my Lineage 18 device has issues with the scheduled backups of Neo.

Strange thing is that all my manual tests, even the same as configured for the scheduled tasks, worked perfectly fine. Just today’s first fully automatic runs seemed to make trouble (maybe cause mobile phone was in standby?)

Can only guess, but will keep Titanium for now on the older devices, and will keep Neo in mind for newer versions of Android, on which Titanium will not work any more :)

I use Titanium since Android 4 and had indeed some troubles (related to storage access rights) on Android 11. After solving those, Titanium ran fine like on older versions of Android. Did not yet try Titanium on newer versions than Android 11.

I am not aware of any advantage, but my family and friends are using either Threema, Signal or Telegram. So I use all three of them.
