Bad faith is applying the same bad rhetoric/logic to two groups and act like it’s perfectly fine and reasonable in one instance but really awful in the other. Especially if one group is literally a subset of the other. It’s not a “gotcha”, it’s an attempt to make you realize what you’re doing. Prejudice is bad, no exceptions.

It’s a lot like commissioning something from an artist. You have to describe what you want, with the style, details and mood you want to see, then maybe go back and forth a few times until it’s just right. Doing that well is a skill, so are things like art direction. But replacing the humans executing on the direction with a machine doesn’t suddenly make the directing human an artist.

It’s a fair argument, I wouldn’t call South or North Korea forcefully annexing the other reunification either though. One state would be annihilated, both in terms of its institutions and its culture. There’s no unity in that, it’s conquest.

The re- prefix does have implications that go beyond any two states becoming one. Germany’s case is a bit different anyway because it was external forces splitting the country.

Yeah, because a CEO is ultimately just another employee in shareholder capitalism. Societal expectations. If enough people think it does then it does. Doesn’t mean non-men can’t do it, but they might get ostracized for it, just like men are when they do certain female-coded things. Why is blue for boys and pink for girls? Why are high-heels for women only? Doesn’t have to make any actual sense, it just kinda is right now, even though it wasn’t always the case.

For real, I’ve been doing it for two years now and it helped a lot.

It probably is about feeling useful/needed. That’s what men are taught to measure their self-worth in.

As in, one way is within the story, keeping the Federation utopian (as you’d expect when you watch a Star Trek show), the other not so much. But I’m mostly talking about Picard here, don’t remember too much about Discovery to be honest.
