  • Couldn’t think of the word, but not a “talk” therapist. Behavioral or cognitive therapist. Basically, they fill in the gap that medication doesn’t and can reduce your dependence on medication later in life. They give you strategies on how to handle the emotional dis-regulation, motivation issues, lack of dopamine, etc. You don’t need to be in “rough” shape, or have a really bad case, or anything like that. Medication only helps so much, so getting those strategies in early can make a big difference. Even as an adult it can help and may be something you want to pursue yourself. Half the battle is understanding what behaviors you exhibit is due to ADHD.

I wish I had been diagnosed early in life and got the help I needed, but with the stigma, poor family, and lack of healthcare, I never had a chance. I missed the part where they are a teenager. Please don’t assume they are fine because everything looks good on paper, so to speak. Best thing is to present the option and continue to support them and yourself.

I hope you don’t take any of this as me saying you are a bad parent or anything like that. I don’t mean it that way. I am really passionate about it and a lot of the stigmas against medication has done a lot more harm than good.

  • Seriously. Get them meds and a proper therapist ASAP who has a clue about ADHD. While their brain is still plastic you can train it early with the hope of having a future where coping mechanisms are already there and potentially reducing or getting off their meds entirely. Once you are an adult, it is over. Opportunity lost and time to learn the hard way.

Dude whacked a CEO responsible for the pain, suffering, and even deaths of millions of people, all for the sake of profit. Plenty of Americans go bankrupt, suffer, or die if they have a medical issue. Healthcare is expensive and insurance companies get to dictate what medical care you receive and will do anything to not have to pay out without having to spend hours on the phone fighting for basic human decency. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to feel bad about having one less monster in the world.

My hope is for the “status quo” to finally be disrupted enough to make a difference. Problem is Americans, and probably a good chunk of the human race, have the attention span of gerbils. Usually a week or two goes by and unless if the Media is continuing to ram it down our throats we move on to the next dopamine hit on TikTok. I might be bitter. I might be really bitter.

  • I am entirely sure it is area dependent and very very different if you are male presenting, but I have no idea how to deal with the extreme anxiety of public transit. The tube in London was great. The subway in NYC was confusing and anxiety inducing, but my phone made up most of the confusion. I am terrified of buses. I need a clear display of the next stops and hopefully a route posted, as I usually can’t hear or understand any instructions over a speaker, if anything is broadcasted at all.

The worst part is being completely unable to relax. Having to wear headphones without music, and firmly not look at anyone to hopefully avoid harassment and block out the overwhelming noise. I can’t even draw on my iPad in peace without someone wanting to look at it and ask questions. I have to make sure I am not in the way, don’t take up too much room, and don’t miss some cue that I was supposed to do something. I hate being a woman. I hate that being in public is an ordeal and I can’t just go for a walk without having to prepare battle gear of sorts to protect myself.

Ok. Let’s do this! If you have a 4 cup pyrex/microwavable measuring cup, it is much easier.

    • Sauce pan with a lid. Nonstick is fine.
    • 2 cups of rice using dry measuring cup
    • 3 cups of water
    • Salt if using unsalted butter
    • 2 tablespoons of butter
    1. Put empty pan on stove and set heat to medium-high. If these are steel pans, stick to medium. Go towards high if nonstick as it takes a bit to heat up.
    2. Put water and butter in microwavable cup and throw it in the microwave until it starts to simmer, maybe 3 minutes? Depends on microwave and dish.
    3. While you are waiting on microwave, put dry rice in pan and gently stir/fold. They will start to turn white, but don’t let them burn. If you need to take the pan off and turn the heat down, do it. We are just preheating the rice and pan up. Add salt if needed.
    4. Get ready. As soon as that water is hot enough to boil or close to, take it out, pour it in the pan. It will be violent.
    5. Do a quick stir, throw the lid on, and turn the heat down to the lowest setting. The water should fully cover the rice.
    6. Walk away. The bottom might toast a little, but that is fine as long as it doesn’t full on burn.

After 20 minutes or so, you can do a real quick check and if it looks kind of wet, throw the lid back on and wait.

At this point, you should have perfectly acceptable rice. Take the lid off, stir the rice with a more folding motion to let it steam any additional moisture out.

  • Yeah, on the rpi thing. I know someone who uses something like that for EverQuest. The gist is it looks for monster spawns and can display them on a map instead of camping a spot for over an hour, sometimes more, to get an item you need. The amount of people who use it on some of these servers is supposedly pretty high and it is just looking at network packets I believe. This is a case where I can find it acceptable, especially for an old game that is mostly played by people who have jobs.

I can’t fathom cheating though in online games and as a woman I have zero desire to play FPS games with a bunch of immature assholes that will torture me if they find out my gender. The only online FPS I played as a kid that was a positive experience was Serious Sam 1 & 2. A lot of German players I remember. Only other online PVP I liked was in Guild Wars 1.

  • You have to walk… barefoot. My feet are messed up and I have some impressive callouses on the balls of my feet. They are a little better after surgery, but recovery sucked. Ultimately, your feet build up protection. Caking on mud probably helped. Animal skins, rudimentary sandals from various plants, and other natural resources could provide extra protection. Unfortunately, we have built an environment made for shoes and evolution is doing the rest. Walking on pavement is not great without shoes. Especially when it bakes. Walking on soil and grass feels a lot better.
