  • Eat shit, Doug. We’re not an autocracy or a dictatorship. You should know that since you’ve (unfortunately) done this fucking job before.

On Wednesday, Ford dismissed the idea of judicial independence and denounced judges who he sees as not tough enough on crime.

“You know something, that’s a joke as far as I’m concerned,” he said. "There’s no judge appointed anywhere in this country, anywhere in the United States, anywhere in the world, that’s not a political appointment. Simple as that. You think these judges just come out of the blue?

Then why do you sound so surprised/angry that these judges, who were appointed by another party, don’t just vibe with everything you do? Obviously, you just want to be able to move around/fire these judges so they’re not inconvenient for you. That’s despotism.

  • I’m sort of hoping they do leave just because they don’t seem to understand that they are an economically weak province outside of oil. All of their eggs are in one basket and they think that, because it’s a lucrative basket, it makes them important and powerful. It doesn’t. The point of our confederation is that we, together, are strong in a wide variety of industries.

Danielle Smith is going to find out very quickly that she and Alberta need the rest of Canada a lot more than Canada needs Alberta. Also, say goodbye to your CPP, OAS, and EI contributions. The impact on schools, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, food safety, and road regulations alone are significant cause for concern. I guess she just doesn’t care whether Albertans are safe, educated, and healthy, she only cares about oil.

  • Sorry, the NDP can’t be “the left” when they’ve not had socialism as a core part of their party identity for years now. They have to find some other grift now that they’ve ignored both what the country needs as well as the people that have supported them for decades.

I can’t keep voting NDP when they spit in my face and let Singh continue as leader after proving he doesn’t have what it takes. They are in a grave of their own making and it’s hard to feel bad for them. If you want to be the left, fucking act like leftists.

  • Omg, shorting RIM in 2009 would have been really stupid even though yes, the writing was on the wall.

There was a lot of national interest in keeping RIM afloat because it was basically our (Canada’s) first modern tech company to have wild success beyond our own borders. A lot of random people had very positive views of the company.

I didn’t really see a huge dip in support for RIM in the media until around 2012 or so. That would have been a way better time to short. But as you say, most people should never short a stock – it isn’t simple or easy to tell when to do it or when to stop.

  • “The GDP warrants were designed for a world that no longer exists,” said Ukraine’s finance ministry on Thursday.

While that’s true, unfortunately you still issued them and powerful people hold them. Billionaires, with or without the IMF, will gleefully wring every dollar from your bones if they have to.

The “investors” even say in the article that if they can’t pay the $2.6B soon they’ll have to pay $6.6B later, so it should be a simple decision for Ukraine. Yes… a simple decision to put your people into poverty for the horrible crime of being invaded.

As we all know, nothing bad has ever happened when a country has an exorbitant debt after the conclusion of a years-long military conflict. So everything will be swell after Ukraine gives away nearly $3B instead of rebuilding the country.
