  • I didn’t say the theories are racist, I said they are founded in racism.

A large amount of the ancient aliens stuff stems from Chariots of the Gods? by Erich Von Daniken, who is very clearly racist.

If we look to von Däniken’s work, there can be little doubt that his racial beliefs influenced his extraterrestrial theories. After a short stint in jail for fraud and either writing or appropriating the material for a number of other books that developed his ancient astronauts theory, von Däniken published Signs of the Gods? in 1979. It is here that many of his racial views are most boldly stated. British archaeology officer Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews points out on his Bad Archaeology blog just a few of the many racist questions and statements posed by the author: “Was the black race a failure and did the extraterrestrials change the genetic code by gene surgery and then programme a white or a yellow race?” He also printed beliefs about the innate talents of certain races: “Nearly all negroes are musical; they have rhythm in their blood.” Von Däniken also consistently uses the term “negroid race” in comparison with “Caucasians.”

  • I’ve used plenty of ergo keyboards and fancy layouts, but as soon as I try to use a regular keyboard I have to re-learn how to type and it really halts any productivity.

This sort of thing may be nice if you only ever use one computer or you’re willing to pack around your keyboard.

Even still, I never liked ergo boards enough to think it’s worth the effort, especially considering being useless on other keyboards once I’m used to ergo.

Now I just stick to a 75% or TKL. Keeps me versatile.

The difference is clear. Left I took a new screenshot and pasted it over the exact same image.

    Closer look:

Here you can see what is causing the blur:

    And without the compression artifacts:

However, you’ve just provided even more evidence to the root of the issue. People are ignorant to what decent quality looks like. The image would be even better if it had a higher resolution than 480x480.

Here’s a new version at 708x708 as an example

With my glasses on, which I kinda need to be a functional human being, there’s little difference.

It seems you’ve stumbled on the root of the issue. I guess some people just can’t see the blur. I don’t have a particularly special phone and I’ve unfortunately been without my glasses all day. It’s likely due more to experience and ‘training’, but it’s easily apparent that my half-assed screenshot is significantly clearer. Less contrast, sure, but that doesn’t magically remove the blur. Most likely the biggest factor is that many people just don’t care, which I find beyond frustrating.

  • While that’s hilarious, it’s fucking dangerous.

Skiing is an extreme sport. People die or are very seriously injured. Something as ‘simple’ as a broken bone is immediately a much bigger issue because you are on a mountain where you need to be evacuated carefully.

It already infuriates me when people wear white clothing or other clothing that blends in with the scenery. You’re a total fucking idiot if you wear any kind of camo, especially arctic camo. You need to be seen so that people can keep their space or if you need to be evacuated.

If you’re dressing up as a yeti, then you’re going to be blending in and hard to be seen, then to add to that you’re scaring people which can very easily cause severe injury.

People don’t take this shit seriously.

(This is a joke at the blurry image posted by OP by exaggerating the blur)

I’ll never understand why this sort of thing is okay with people. Especially here on Lemmy.

It takes minimal effort to find a better copy. If you think it takes longer, then that’s because you never do it and you just need to do it a few times. With this small step we can make Lemmy significantly better than the rest of the Internet.
