My partner and I have been ogling much of their wares for the last year or so. I could easily spend $3,000 on the website (you know, if I had $3,000 to blow on clothes).
Musician, nerd, anxious.

I think this one’s my favorite so far, it’s a tough call between Enterprise and Lower Decks for me.
I love how it seems like Phlox is up late watching movies and eating popcorn, while everyone else was woken up by the song and went to the bridge to try to deal with the faith of the heart. The person who made it says there is a second Enterprise theme being made as well.
It actually sounded like he was about to say he had actually been there, then realized he was about to lie about that to a guy who would immediately recognize and likely call him out for lying, so he then course corrected with a seriously lame response.
I mean, the “president” is the guy from The Apprentice. 🤮
I just wonder what type of people saw that and thought Zelenskyy was the unreasonable one? It’s rhetorical, I know what type of people think that… sadly.
I just can’t understand why Vance would interpret Zelenskyy as being disrespectful for politely, calmly, and carefully articulating his point of view on how diplomacy has failed him and his country. Vance seems like the type of person I would basically laugh at and walk away from if I were in a situation to have to hear him be “alpha and in-charge”.
It was like watching a scene from an episode of a reality TV show from the early 2000s.
Great video, thanks for posting! This guy articulated a lot of thoughts about algorithmic recommendations that I’ve never been quite able to form into coherent thoughts myself. I definitely understand why I decided to go all in with the fediverse or social web half a decade ago or so now.
That rolls off the tongue a lot easier than its new “official” name.
That’s how I do it too, but after reading your “hand in the blob” comment, perhaps I’ll start wearing gloves.
Indeed! Kinda makes me want to come up with some sort of “snac-service” idea.
That’s a really cool use for snac! It’s perfect for something so straightforward and uses so little resources that I would imagine if you eventually have the entire planets weather forecasts being published it would still only use a tiny amount of bandwidth and power!
I don’t know of a single word or bit of slang that describes that (annoying) type of personality. It’s a bit contrarian with a dash of experience hijacking. There should be a word for that though. Any ideas?
I think another big part of it is simply visibility. Audible is Amazon, and Amazon is (seems like) the “only” place to buy anything these days. I checked out Libro.fm a while back and at the time they had a rather small selection comparatively, but after browsing for a while yesterday I see they have grown quite a lot! I think I’ll give them a go next time in looking for something.
I think the vast majority of people don’t even realize or understand DRM in general or if they do they don’t fully grasp the fact that at any point in the future they could lose access to the rights protected things that they have purchased with real money if the company shuts down their servers, they lose access to the account, or any number of other things that would cause the files to be encrypted virtual paper weights.
That being said, I use Audible a few months out of the year to get a few credits for the Audible exclusive content, but I don’t view those purchases as content I now own, I view that stuff as “rented”. Though I’ve been looking into some open source projects that can decrypt my Audible stuff, just haven’t had time to do it yet.
I think one of the main reasons why the fediverse didn’t blow up much bigger than it did over the past couple of years is because of the weird and insistent need to explain how it works from every possible angle with seemingly every possible analogy. It’s information overload and it only confuses the shit out of people who do not care in the slightest how it works.
Hmm… maybe if we tell the nerds that they need to add an “abstraction layer” to their explanations that might motivate them to simplify?
I had the same thoughts about using a domain as username and it is basically smoke and mirrors. I did not know however that you can use a domain for a bridged account. Are you saying that my ActivityPub account that is bridged to Bluesky can have a username that is a domain that I own?
It really is great! The amount of innovation and creativity in regard to the Fediverse is amazing. Although Bluesky seems to be blowing up big right now, I’m actually hopeful that it will motivate those of us within the ActivityPub realm to create even more and it seems to already be happening.
I’d love to see an easier path of entry to Lemmy as well. “Community Packs” would be a great way to help with that!
As soon as someone that is similar to most people in my life sees the words “.csv” and “hamburger menu” their eyes will glaze over and they’ll bounce.
Plus there’s step number 4 that I know will scare folks away…
Select Import and Export >>> Import >>> Import type dropdown: “Lists” (NOT “Following list”) >>> Verify that ‘Merge’ is selected >>> Browse >>> Select “[file name] – list.csv” >>> Upload >>> Confirm
The Pixelfed developer is actively working to get a streamlined solution for Starter Packs out for all kinds of ActivityPub servers that will use existing APIs and methods that already exist within the protocol. He mentioned it should be available in beta in a day or two.
It is absolutely baffling that people don’t realize that people are the product. I’ve had some folks tell me that they understand and “don’t care” because the service is “free” or whatever, but then they get angry and freaked out when the platform knows exactly what they’re thinking, or at least seems to know.
There’s definitely a deficit in understanding and education on what corporate social media really does.
