Not just Heritage. There’s so many of them it’s hard to keep track. Sourcewatch.org tries to. But you can definitely start with the cosigners of Project 2025 and all the companies (especially media companies) that those people are on the boards of. (I think that should catch things like Rumble, Daily Wire, Victory Network, etc.)
Oh, I see. Yeah, a net worth that’s perpetually in the millions is insane. You could basically live off the interest at that amount and not even need to touch the original money. It’s crazy and frankly should be illegal.
bullets and bombs
I think it’s enough to just do: arrests of leaders (and banning them from public speaking but for life) + breaking up the party + outlawing the party + banning people who decide to take up the mantle of/act as a declared proxy for the party and attempt to visibly pick up where they left off.
That last one I learned from my own country’'s current situation: in Romania, a crazy far right candidate came out of nowhere (on the wings of illegal undisclosed campaign donations) to win the first round, and as soon as that happened our mainstream far right party’s candidate started supporting him. Then they canceled the election because of the undisclosed donations (he literally declared 0 campaign spending!) so now, in the redo of the election, this other guy is basically running as his proxy and will likely try to appoint him PM if he wins.
Same. I was only pointing out that over a human lifetime, it adds up: a total of $1m would be equivalent to living 80 years (rough average lifespan) on $12.5k a year. It’s not a lot.
Allegedly! The evidence is slim. It’s reasonable to assume the killer is still out there…
Alas, I think they found a new one in nihilistic young men who want to burn it all down.
For your whole life, $1m is cutting it close — I think for the entirety of a good life in a country like the US or Western Europe, $10m is plentiful. $10m for your whole life, with current cost of living. Anything beyond that should be taxed to oblivion.
I’m stealing this.
But don’t take too long otherwise people will forget and will fall prey to new fascist propaganda alleging that you’re “censoring free speech” or “rewriting history”.
Exactly. That ratchet works on power.
Why not both?
Honestly, if they and people in government had done the bare minimum to uphold the law, much of this would not have happened. This administration has been working in legal gray areas since day one. I recently learned of the phrase “state of exception” and it fits a lot of what they’re doing and how they’re doing it.
IMO it’s not that blue check equals credibility, but rather it equals that you are who you say you are. This is a good thing particularly when it comes to public figures/officials — not for their sake, mind you, but for the sake of other people who may see a tweet from them. If the checkmark is there, then it’s them. If not, then it’s an impersonator. Right now it’s difficult to tell.
Tl;dr: it doesn’t make what they say real, it just makes them real.
Always has been.
Yeah, it’s not the first time I see utter disdain (to the point of mods getting involved) in lefty spaces for suggesting the influence of Russian propaganda in certain kinds of talking points, or even the mere existence of it at all.
I remember on Reddit on r/GreenAndPleasant they banned me for pushing back to a conspiracy-brained guy who talked like a literal nazi bot, who said the only reason we hate Putin is that we’ve been primed by Western propaganda. So I showed him with primary sources from their own prime time TV, sidestepping Western propaganda altogether, how genocidal their attitude towards Ukraine (and other neighbors) really is. Turns out that was a no-no. I wonder if I had said Putin is good — something tells me they would have banned me all the same because direct defense of Putin is literally Russian propaganda, they just want to cultivate the idea that suspecting Russian propaganda is paranoia brought about by Western propaganda brainwashing.
So this is the first time this has happened to me since joining Lemmy but apparently my previous reply was removed for being… uncivil? I never would have guessed that’s where the line was. Sigh.
That’s a pipe dream, especially with current leadership. The Dem party needs a progressive takeover.
