Also, the time scale is practically infinite as well. So infinity in (at least) 4 dimensions leaves a lot of room for empty space

“All” is all content on the fediverse, across all instances with which your home instance is federated. It will be similar for all instances, because most are federated with the big instances and those tend to have more posts and interaction.
If you only want to see the feed of communities on your local instance, you can just browse your “Local” feed.
I mean, simple file should already be a thing, and the IRS would prefer it be easier for everyone to file. But h&r block and turbotax have lobbied heavily against it because they’d lose money with easier filing. One way to make things more streamlined and efficient would be to get rid of middle men and focus on making internal systems better.
But this administration wants the internal systems to be broken and needlessly complex so that they can outsource it to their preferred middle men so that they all make a lot more money.
I think it’s from “The Founder” about the guy who turned McDonald’s into a national chain.
Right. It’s basically Jesus (or whoever the story teller is from the other perspective) saying, “I know you all are racist. Stop it. Anyone can be a good person. Do better.”
A guess a slightly less charitable interpretation could be: ‘even this evil person can do good once in a while, why aren’t you?’ but aligning with a lot of the other parables I feel like it’s more than likely to be the first one.
That is kind of the point or the parable, right? But the parable wasn’t ‘othering’ them, it was showing how their background/race/religion/heritage isn’t what made them ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ it’s their actions that matter.
Society at the time already encouraged people to think of Samaritans as the other and to look down on them. The parable tells of an injured, vulnerable traveler in a time of need. Many Jews, members of high society, etc. (people normally thought of as 'good) walk by and ignore the man. A Samaritan passes by and offers aid. Of all the people who walked by, only the Samaritan is worthy of heaven. The moral is that anyone can be a good person by helping others…the kingdom of heaven is open to all, not just the Jews, and that your actions/the way you live your life is more important than what you call yourself, what tribe you belong to, who your parents are.
It’s one of the most basic messages in the Bible. It is clearly anti-racist. It promotes helping others above all else. And somehow modern Christians seem to miss the point completely.
And the “RIP Grantland” makes me think this is Bill Simmons related, maybe even published by Grantland itself (American sports/pop culture website started by Simmons when he worked for ESPN).
Edit: I’ve just seen the credit at the bottom of the poster. Guess it’s not related, just made by a fan I guess.
Right, I do despise the Democrats but I still voted Harris for harm reduction. If anything, these 4 long years mentioned above are just going to make me despise Democrats more for fumbling the election so badly
I mentioned this in a comment last week and was called a sexist for not supporting women, because I dared to say a Cheney endorsement was bad for Dems.
This has nothing to do with her gender. In fact, I just said ‘a Cheney.’ Dick Cheney also supported Kamala and that made people want to vote for her even less than Liz did. The fact that Kamala’s positions are so far to the right that known war hawk Dick Cheney threw his support behind her is a BAD thing for a lot of left wing voters.
We weren’t talking about people who voted for Trump instead of Kamala. We are talking about 15 million people who didn’t show up because there was no one running that supported their values.
So some people felt they had no one to vote for.
…with a Cheney*
Just like it’s been approved for the past year.
Hahaha I didn’t even think to check that. Wild
Right, “did Biden drop out” had a spike as seen in the first picture below. It’s hard to tell magnitude. When comparing to another phrase, it’s easy to see that the spike wasn’t even close to the spike for another election day phrase: ‘who is Kamala?’
I recently re read The Jungle and it is still super relevant. I just read Huasipongo for the first time last week - an oppressed/abused population lashes out against the owner/settler class because they have no other option, and the military is immediately called in to wipe them out. It’s all familiar. And those were both written over 100 years ago

My mom, a republican, almost voted for Kerry “because he had better hair.” She liked Bush, wanted Bush to win, but she viewed him as the less attractive candidate so she struggled to vote for him.
I mean, it’s pretty well documented how awful Christopher Columbus was. Even in the context of the time period: he was arrested in the new world and shipped back to Spain for a trial because he was so ruthless in his treatment of the native peoples. The myths about him being a ‘great man’ are all only like 100 years old.
Are they always there? Looks like they are getting ready to hang a curtain around it before painting it, or some other type of maintenance.
