I wouldn’t doubt it was siphoning up all sorts of data. And I’m convinced that the AI did also have access to the message contents. The spam contained specific details about an upcoming event (time, location, etc), and it wouldn’t have known them otherwise. Plus it was a last minute rescheduled event, so if it had extrapolated from previous events it couldn’t have predicted the new date.

So with iLands can you feed the agents a lot of extra information? Usually there’s some kind of context window limit. Part of what I was hoping to find out is how automated the iLands agents are. Like do you just give it some generic prompt and it starts its spam and scam operation, or can it be extensive with customization for specific spam targets? I suppose I could just sign up on iLands and find out directly, but hell no.

Was just reading that ever increasing numbers of people can’t afford their marketplace plans and have been dropping them. So then when those uninsured people need critical care, the burden is going to be on the hospitals which won’t get paid.

We’re likely to see some hospitals go under from all this. Some rural hospitals already have been due to some previous Medicaid cuts.

Could be a hit to some profit margins.

At this point it seems like we either need to get rid of medical insurance so that the prices go down. Or do Medicaid for all.

I’ve seen several predictions of how many people will be affected next year and I think it’s going to be a lot more than any I’ve seen. You have to work or volunteer enough hours but then not make too much money. It seems designed to drop as many people as possible.

I’m one of the seeming few who paid to register it back in the Win9x days. Turned out that the key also works for the non-free Linux version (think I only ever bothered to set that up once). These days gzipped tarballs or squashfs with zstd are my go-tos. The former for speed with source trees or such, and the latter for filesystem backups or larger directories, because loop mounting it is so fast and convenient.

That does sound pretty hard to deal with. Hopefully a better opportunity will present itself to you sooner than later. Are you allowed to listen to music, audiobooks, podcasts or such, maybe with a single earbud? Some YTers like Technology Connections make videos that can be listened to without looking at the screen. VAS Aviation is another one.

When I’m out riding my bike (usually later, to beat the heat) there are a few commercial buildings I pass by that are under construction. And there are people sitting alone in vehicles all night keeping an eye on things (probably to prevent copper theft, homeless trashing it, etc). I’ve often wondered if they’re bored out of their minds and would appreciate conversation, but I’ve never stopped just in case it alarms them.

Also I have no idea who would be sorting through my stuff. I’m what’s called a “solo ager”. I imagine that the first thing to go deliquent would be property taxes. So maybe some city worker that prepares houses to be auctioned or something? Or maybe they don’t bother with that and whoever buys my place from auction will be the ones to deal with it?

In my younger years I was a really bad pack rat but I’ve been pretty successful in getting rid of things (mostly donating it). I always wondered why my grandparents had such barren houses. They weren’t rich but they weren’t poor. But I did a decent amount of traveling for work with a single carry-on and realized how little I actually need or care about anymore. So the stuff I have is basically utilitarian now. Stuff I don’t use is just more to clean and maybe someone else could benefit from it. Even have spare room in my storage shed and I can access everything, which felt like a major accomplishment.

Can you give some examples of interactions that you would prefer to happen, and what would initiate those interactions? I typically avoid interacting with security. When I was working retail, people would attempt to strike up a conversation to distract me while their accomplice was waiting to steal stuff. So I feel like if I walked over to them for no reason then they’d actually be more stressed out.

Totally agree. And especially when I know it’s just going to upset me and won’t change anyone’s mind. It’s a waste of my energy and happiness to constantly and pointlessly engage. Responding with silence often works pretty well, at least in person.

The writers seemingly forgot about it, too. The next season Picard was telling him the story about fighting the Nausicaans and the experience of being impaled through the back (artificial heart episode) and Wesley made no mention (or reaction) that the same thing had happened to him by the vicious animal things.

Were there any children in the Q portion of the Robin Hood episode? It seems like there may have been some in the castle courtyard?
