With Trump it’s hard to know with certainty what will happen, between flipflops and flat-out lying. I think the speed with which the various government agencies collapsed/capitulated before Musk & DOGE, and the capitulation of universities over Palestine protests and ICE, were not things anyone could predict. One could predict the rest of the Republicans would go along with all that stuff, but surprised the Democrats are not always fully unified against.

And then you have Asian Americans, who just want to be considered Americans. Probably every American born Asian has been asked at least once in their life “Where are you from?” and has their [location in the US] answer rejected with “No where are you really from?”, as if it’s impossible for an Asian to be American born - they must be foreign born and an immigrant. Asking about ethnic origin, ancestry, or even family are more semantically accurate terms that won’t make the person questioned feel like they don’t belong.

I was actually curious about this several years ago. In 2020 I started two investments, one has investment decisions made by a team of people, the other is not billed as AI but automated. I started them about the same time and with the same amount of money. 5 years later they are still nearly the same, the automated one slightly higher than the human one much of the time but not always.

I was pretty astounded to learn a significant number of Muslims voted for the guy who clearly did not want Muslims entering the county last time around, because they were told Democrats were continuing to arm Israel and thus supported Israel. Which is somewhat true, but because everyone thinks in black and white terms, they decided to believe that “Trump wants to make peace” meant he was going to get everyone to stand down, when the reality is that Trump doesn’t give a shit about Palestinians any more than he ever did, and peace to him means getting rid of the Muslims and turning Gaza into a resort for Israelis.

Trump’s language around undocumented has always implied, or outright claimed, it is an invasion. “They’re not sending their best,” as if their attempts to enter are an intentional act by the government of any country south of the border.

They want to knock CA down because it’s a wealthy, successful state with mostly Democrats, but they don’t think far enough to realize if they succeed in damaging CA’s economy then CA can’t contribute as much to their red welfare state.
