  • I’m not sure about which metadata is collected by Element, but it might be possible to correlate data, for example through fingerprinting. So it might be possible to know who the parties communicating with each other are and when and with whom they have communicated with, even though they did not provide phone/email.

With Signal, as far as I know and they claim, that is not possible. The only data Signal has is your phone number, when you’ve signed up and when you last logged in.

So with my limited knowledge I’d say Signal is much more private for personal communication. Especially if you’re not tech savvy and take additional measures.

And Lemmy is a social message board. There is no expectation of privacy here.

the human population is very much reliant on animal sources to sustain itself

Do you have a source for that? What % of the global meat consumption is actually necessary and what is just for pleasure? And don’t get me started on food waste…

what is required to continue existing as a species

Do you mean scale up as a species? We’ve existed for how many thousands of years in a sustainable way?

the distinctive categories of pets and livestock are an unfortunate requirement of our current situation

A requirement for what? You said we need animals to sustain ourselves. What do we need the distinction of pets for?

People who treat pets animals as property are not good people.

    FTFY

I’m not a militant vegan, I do make occasional exemptions for ethically sourced animal products. But the distinction between pets and other animals is just hypocritical.

Giving me news about US “actions”…

You do realize that OPs article is about a US “action”? You’ve now been informed and might be able to take action like voting accordingly, writing to your representatives etc.

Or, as per my initial comment, you could’ve ignored US news and would be none the wiser.

Edit: one more thing, you know the US-made/Tesla boycotts happening all over the world? They’d not be happening if everyone ignored US politics.
