I meant dangerous as in that it attracts people who would have never started smoking. While cigarettes are more dangerous, vaping also has it’s drawbacks. The base fluid may be safe to consume, but the flavorings are the problem in my eyes. They appeal to a younger audience and the ingredients are most often not known (Corresponding study if you want to dive deeper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK507184/#_sec_000093_ )
Additionally nicotine in itself is not something I would want anyone to be addicted to.
Yeah the convenience and the flavor are the main problems for me. If the prepackaged vapes would come in non candy flavors, a lot of potential new consumers wouldn’t touch vapes. They should be an alternative for smokers and not a new revenue stream for tobacco conglomerates based on a new generation who know smoking in general is bad.
If THC vapes are properly vetted and the buyer is informed about possible health impacts I’m totally ok with that.
The politicians are paid by the tobacco companies. There is money to be made, and a new generation will replace tobacco smokers and ensure that the tobacco industry will survive for longer.
Nicotine is socially accepted, that is the other main problem.
I’m all for safe substance use if wanted, but vapes are dangerous. I smoked cigarettes, then changed over to vaping and now use snus. Nicotine is a huge problem with it’s addictiveness.
Vapes in the current state they are sold, are like candy to young people and the shops treat it that way. Vaping makes it easy to consume nicotine, and once your body is addicted it craves more and more. The amount of nicotine in these vapes is obscene. And you can do it everywhere with them. You don’t smell it like cigarettes. You can get vapes in any taste you desire. I consumed way more nicotine when I was vaping than with cigarettes.
I would say if you feel sick call in.
Personally I called in even with a headache or when I wasn’t in the right headspace to work properly. Take care of yourself first.
Depending on how your company handles things of course.
No, they won’t loose all content. I think the quality will just get worse and worse depending on what you view as quality. For the average social media user it probably will be good enough, or it will develop into reposts from other mainstream platforms.
Mass exodus maybe in terms of power users. The average Reddit user used the official client before the api restrictions. My guess is that many people who posted good stuff ditched Reddit.
Don’t forget about the time wasted on social media or other useless stuff on the internet.

After reading up on GDPR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation) it deals with the transfer of personal data to entities outside the EU or EEA for processing. The definition of personal data would be the main point to see if/how GDPR is applicable to lemmy instances. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_data)
Your IP address and EMail address could be classified as personal data from my point of view. But this won’t be shared or processed outside of the instance as far as I can tell. If your username and associated posts are classified as personal data I can’t say, but there seems no connection of these to your IP or Mail outside the instance. According to this TechDispatch (https://edps.europa.eu/data-protection/our-work/publications/techdispatch/2022-07-26-techdispatch-12022-federated-social-media-platforms_en) the instances still must adhere to GPDR, but as there is not much or no processing of personal data taking place this should pose no issue.
All of this is based on a bit of research, so please enlighten me if I made any mistakes.
OpenAI is currently being sued because they used everything they could fin to train their AI models. We will see how that works out.

We need to give it time. We are so used to things working instantly that it feels strange to have to wait. Enjoy the moment and do your part!
Yeah I played around with different tools yesterday. Topaz sharpen AI was pretty much useless for what I need. But ChaiNNer with different models is looking promising so far to save at least some of the pictures I have.
Will have a look at ChaiNNer in case topaz sharpen ai doesn’t get the results I want.
Thx, but it seems to be a one time payment. If it where a subscription based model the torrent would be needed.
I’ll try that one out. If it works well enough I’m willing to pay.
Do you have any recommendations regarding the AI tools? Technical experience should be sufficient to run and configure tools when provided. Would be nice if there was a tool to sharpen a face based on other source pictures provided.
In case you missed it: if you have Lemmy open in the browser, use the share button and Add to Home Screen. Feels and looks like an app that way.
The modlog seems also good on mobile browsers.
