Could you maybe suggest meeting jointly or separately with a financial planner? Express a desire to make sure household expenses are covered and possibly invest in your kids future, but be clear that you don’t see her inheritance, however much it is, as a chance for you to buy a sports car or something.

My parents had a joint account for household expenses and would discuss how to split major purchases like new cars, but they both had separate accounts and investments.

I’m fortunate enough to live near a river with a loop that makes it a perfect lazy river, so that’s pretty much my summer.

It’s around $1700 for a one bedroom where I am. $1359 for a two bedroom sounds like a dream.

How about banning corporations from owning single family homes or thousands of condo units? I bet that would go a long way towards solving the housing crisis. I used to live in a 200 unit condo complex and the majority of units were owned by 3 people who used that majority to push through whatever they wanted on the condo board. An absolutely massive tax on housing you don’t actually live in would help make housing more accessible. Housing shouldn’t be an investment. Nationalize it.

Lemmy reminds me of old school BBS where actual discussion happened. I know it’s been a shift for me where I actually have to think about a response and hold a discussion instead of just following the patterns. Not that I don’t appreciate rote comments, it’s nice to expect a joke and have that delivered on. Not every thread though.
