This is the way I do it. I still hear about everything, I just don’t need to seek it out. And I still feel very informed enough to vote.
Remember that if you’re an American citizen, you can make this happen. Never assume it’ll happen without your vote.
Tim Walz seems like the kind of guy who does a tune up of your bike because he knows how busy you’ve been and just wants to help.
Tim Walz seems like the kind of guy who invites you over for dinner and then sends you home with the leftovers.
Tim Walz seems like the kind of guy who has an old, but still pretty great TV you can have if you want it.
Exactly. I find that I sign the back of checks and write brief sentences in birthday cards. Neither of those feel like they’ll be around for a lot longer.
Fair enough. Most people don’t encounter analog clocks anymore. And many of us have smart watches or phones where we check the time. Since I have a non-analog watch, I don’t find I ever look at analog clocks anymore. If it’s in a room, I just don’t notice it. Growing up, it was important to know, but now I just never have a use for it. Learning is important, but there are so many more interesting and useful things to learn.
You could also make an argument about automatic or manual cars. Sure, we could teach our kids how to drive manual, but why? Most cars are automatic. If they want to have a manual car, they can learn. Otherwise it’s just a useless skill.
There are fewer and fewer applications for writing, but it’s still more important than reading an analog clock.
I actually agree with you. I can read an analog clock, but what worth is the skill? Most clocks are digital, and it gives me nothing more to read an analog one. People downvoting you is just silly. Some skills are allowed to die out if they add no value in modern life.
Everyone’s talking about the tech, but I’ll talk about the user base. When you make a post or comment on Reddit, it often feels like you get lost in some black hole of other posts or comments. No one sees your comment because there are 1000 other comments on the same post.
At Lemmy, there are fewer users and fewer comments, but your comments actually get seen. People upvote. I weirdly get way more upvotes at Lemmy than I did at Reddit, in spite of the smaller user base here. Because of that, I’m way more active here than I was on Reddit.
Hahhaha. Totally missed that. I just assumed it was a joke.
Makes sense.
As a Star Wars fan, have an angry upvote
Voodoo introduced zombies, but the modern zombie has diverged significantly from that concept, making them quite distinct from each other. A movie character pointing at a zombie and saying “it’s like one of those voodoo zombie things” doesn’t make much sense because the concepts are pretty different now. Additionally, more people associate Romero zombies with the word “zombie” rather than the voodoo zombie.
I can relate. I feel dead.
:)
Shaun of the Dead is a parody of other zombie movies, and it humorously highlights the fact that other zombie movies are hesitant to utter the word “the Z word” without raising questions about its origin.
The answer is because aliens have been a topic of speculation for ages. It’s similar to vampires. Vampires have their own lore from books. Zombies don’t have that. They have other zombie movies. The only way for someone in a zombie movie to believe in zombies is if they’ve seen a movie about them or they have previously experienced a zombie outbreak.
It’s entirely plausible that individuals in a movie’s universe might contemplate the possibility of extraterrestrial life before an alien invasion.
It’s equally plausible that people have encountered the lore surrounding vampires before experiencing their first encounter.
It’s highly unlikely that people watched a zombie movie and then experienced a zombie outbreak.
Except with Matter, all of those other standards are buying into the universal standard.
