Is the purpose of this exercise just to have something for Russia to sign in case someone pulls off a coup?

Saw a lib zoomer with Palestine, Ukraine and China flags in their display name.

They want zoning reform, but are diametrically opposed to being part of an economically populist program which includes zoning reform.

If a Bernie sanders type politician started talking about zoning reform, they would pivot to something else.

Just like “popularism”, “effective altruism”, “YIMBY” etc, it’s just a cudgel against the left to assuage voters’ fears about oligarchy and redirect populist demands into something that’s more acceptable to capital.

If you point any of this out, they accuse you of being a luddite degrowth fanatic who just doesn’t want to “build stuff”, if you question whether deregulation is the best way to “build stuff” they just stop talking.

I’ve never seen anyone who defends Biden’s Ukraine policy contend with the fact that both sides seem to have roughly similar casualty rates, but Russia is bigger and has more people so they will inevitably win unless Ukraine can take out like 3 Russians per casualty. They can never connect the dots between their desired end result and the actual reality of the conflict.

I keep thinking about how in 2022 the progressive caucus was forced to retract a letter calling for negotiations. Ukraine was at the peak of its negotiating power and Russia had mostly been pushed back by its fall counteroffensive. Now Ukraine has lost more land, hundreds of thousands more soldiers, and is dealing with an unfriendly leadership in Washington.

Some people are convinced that continuing arms shipments will inevitably lead to Crimea being retaken or Putin being toppled, but dem leadership has only gestured to simplistic, patronizing aphorisms and hypotheticals while Trump’s people get to seem like the adults in the room.

I don’t think your issue is that the article is biased, it seems like the outlet is just not sufficiently deferential to the ideological line of the US Intelligence and Defense communities and that’s enough to get you to dismiss it outright.

No country has ever been more adept at turning isolated teenagers with borderline intelligence into right wing “esoteric” ideologues, school shooters, and family annihilators. It’s a sick society and every right wing blue check account that helped radicalize this kid bears the same responsibility as her shithead parents.
