Fascism cannot be allowed to take root in Canada.
This is really going to start to snowball come March when Carney is picked as Liberal leader. He comes from a background of money management (governor of the Bank of Canada & England) and is well liked by both liberals and moderate conservatives.
I suspect that the liberals are going to pull up to a tie with the cons by the fall election, but we shall see.
A haunting reminder that rainbow capitalism is 100% about profit and convenience.
Corporations were never your friend. They were never going to defend you.
It would be a shit storm of unimaginable proportions. The US would be attacking another NATO nation and Canada would almost certainly invoke Article 5. Those not assisting militarily would probably sanction the shit out of the US and many of their previous treaties, pacts, and agreements would be withdrawn.
Recent polling in the US has shown that US citizens are greatly opposed to the ongoing trade war with Canada and would be even more opposed to further conflict. The executive branch ordering an attack on a historic ally and neighbour would cause catastrophic rift in the US military chain of command and I’d imagine many would disobey orders. States along the Canada/US border would likely be fiercely opposed to having their states turned into battlegrounds and would resist legally in whatever way they could.
Canada does not have the military for a large prolonged conflict, especially from our closest ally. An actual war would probably be quite shortlived, but it would also probably be the last thing the Trump administration ever does. The economic and civil-unrest blowback would rip apart his administration. Ordering your citizens to kill their neighbours, friends, and even family is not something you do without major consequences.
And just like the Albertans, Ontarians are allergic to making sound voting decisions and will vote him right back in again.
Earth’s Own is great. I love their oat milk.
As for Burnaby - I’m not sure exactly. Probably cheaper and more available land for commercial businesses. Vancouver is notoriously expensive and cramped.
Holy shit that is an absurd amount of money. Even a fraction of that amount could overhaul and upgrade their education, healthcare, housing, etc
Literally pissing your taxpayers money down the drain.
Most of my groceries are either already made in Canada or imported from Mexico. I didn’t have to change much.
It’s not a cheap way to shop, I will admit, but it can be done. Canada makes a lot of food, especially here in BC where I live. Beef, pork, sausages, honey, dairy, milk-alternatives, breads, and so much more.
For non-grocery items there are numerous retailers that are Canadian. London Drugs is a great one here in western Canada. Online shopping is a bit harder because Amazon is so hard to replicate, but honestly at that point I just buy from Aliexpress. If I’m going to order cheap crap online I’ll just get it from the source instead of sending money to the US.
You are assuming he will face any consequences. He is completely shielded by Trump and has been granted authority to do whatever he wants. And even if he is breaking the law - the law literally means nothing if it is not enforced. The US government has been effectively coup’d from within and cannot and will not regulate or stop itself.
There were numerous TV and billboard ads going. https://thetyee.ca/News/2024/10/16/Right-Wing-Albertans-BC-Election-Ads/
Canada also provides 100% of the potash used in the US.
Canada could basically shut down the entire US agricultural sector in an instant if it wanted to.
They are (were) a fringe fascist party that rose to near-electoral status because our voting population is catastrophically ignorant about politics and thought they were voting away Trudeau during a provincial election.
It is mind-blowing how much Trudeau influenced an election he had no involvement in. Then again there was a lot of outside meddling such as ad campaigns from the Alberta government.
Makes me happy that I see many of these brands and products in my local stores. Some of which I already buy.
Also when it comes to food, I suggest people seek out local bakers, butchers, and produce markets. You will get better quality goods and possibly save a buck too.
This would be sick. Especially for high-quality local foods.
Not every type of epilepsy is photosensitive.
In fact, it’s an extremely rare form of epilepsy.
Also tonic-clonic seizures are only one of many kinds, and they are not fun.
Well, think about it.
They profit off their users by either charging them for a service, selling user data, and/or advertisement. If their dating app was very successful and quickly matched users together, they wouldn’t be using the app very long and the company would lose potential profit.
This probably wasn’t the case in the earlier days of the internet but it certainly is now. They want you hooked and coming back every day so they can get maximum profit off you.
This needs to be one part of a multi-part retaliation to the US. The trade deals between the US and Canada are worth almost 1 Trillion dollars with manufactured goods and fuels being a large part of it. With the US being so politically unstable and aggressive, we need to find new trade deals and walk away from these draconian agreements we made with the US.
Canada has major ports on both the Pacific and Atlantic coast with rail and road infrastructure linking them to the rest of the country. There is a lot we could do. Will we? Probably not. A sizable portion of our own political sphere wants to bend over and take it from Trump even though he will give no love in return.
Shows the interesting power of cultural context and perspective. Like how alcohol and its consumption is incredibly normalised and accepted despite the fact it’s literally poison and kills over 100,000 people each year in the US alone.
Finally, something to listen to while I huff the fumes.
Treasonweasel…
I’m stealing that.
